๐ŸŒŸ Weโ€™re going 3 for 3!
Weโ€™re proud to have hosted another fun and interactive workshop with NSLC - National Student Leadership Conference , marking our third year welcoming high school learners from around the world who are passionate about healthcare. This workshop gives students a glimpse of what to expect in and beyond medical school, with hands-on experiences ranging from advanced simulations โ€” like birthing and difficult airway management โ€” to immersive virtual reality.

What makes this workshop especially meaningful each year is the involvement of medical students from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine . Stepping into the role of instructors, they led sessions, shared their journeys, and offered firsthand insight into the path of becoming a physician.

While we canโ€™t predict where these bright learners will go next, we hope this experience sparked new inspiration and direction. And maybe one day, weโ€™ll welcome them back to our simulation center as medical students at ! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒŸ was a fantastic opportunity to take action and "Move the Needle" for patient safety! Our department was proud to join Jackson Health System and many other departments at their Annual Patient Safety Fair, where we reached over 450 healthcare professionals with hands-on education and valuable insights on patient safety.

In addition, we partnered with the University of Miami Health System and its Risk Management team to bring our "Room of Errors" on the road, hosting several interactive sessions at UHealth locations across the area. Over 200 healthcare professionals had the chance to engage in this hands-on experience, learning about the critical role simulation plays in improving patient safety.

This year's wasn't just about awarenessโ€”it was about turning that awareness into action, and we're proud to be part of the effort to improve patient care.

Welcome to the Center for Patient Safety

Our vision at the University of Miami โ€“ Jackson Memorial Hospital Center for Patient Safety is to lead the healthcare community in creating a culture of patient safety. To achieve this incredibly important goal, we engage in three major activities: simulation-based medical education, research to advance the body of knowledge in patient safety, and sharing our findings with our colleagues.

Simulation-based medical education has been shown to improve providersโ€™ ability to handle critical situations and lead to more favorable patient outcomes. In our state of the art operating room and ICU, we re-enact common and rare medical events, observe and film traineesโ€™ performance, and review the scenarios together in targeted debriefing sessions. We are building momentum and making strides in the world of patient safety.
