Know Your Moles: Why Skin Checks Matter

Moles are usually harmless, but changes in their appearance can sometimes signal skin cancer, including melanoma. The earlier it’s detected, the easier it is to treat—making self-checks and professional skin exams essential.

Dermatologists recommend using the ABCDE guide when looking at your moles:
A – Asymmetry: One side looks different from the other
B – Border: Irregular, blurred, or jagged edges
C – Color: More than one shade (brown, black, red, white, or blue)
D – Diameter: Larger than 6 mm (about the size of a pencil eraser)
E – Evolving: Any change in size, shape, or color—or new symptoms like itching or bleeding

Dermoscopy in action: This specialized examination technique allows us to evaluate pigmented skin lesions with 10x magnification and polarized light, revealing structures beneath the skin surface that aren’t visible to the naked eye.

This non-invasive approach helps us make more accurate diagnoses and reduces the need for unnecessary biopsies.

Your skin plays a big role in how you feel—both physically and emotionally. These five evidence-based tips are great starting points for boosting your confidence and supporting skin health:

-Hydrate Inside and Out: Drinking water and using a quality moisturizer help maintain skin elasticity and barrier function.

-Embrace a Skincare Routine: Consistency matters. A simple regimen with cleanser, treatment, moisturizer, and SPF can improve skin clarity and texture.

-Protect with SPF: Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is one of the most important steps in preventing premature aging and skin cancer.

-Nourish Your Body: A balanced diet rich in antioxidants, omega-3s, and vitamins supports your skin from the inside.

-Celebrate Your Unique Beauty: No two skin types are the same. We’re here to help you understand yours and care for it with confidence.
