No Mom Should Carry That Guilt

When the Tylenol and autism claim went viral, one of the moms I work with — whose daughter has ASD — broke down and said, “I took Tylenol during my pregnancy. Did I cause this?”

That moment hit hard. No mother should carry that kind of guilt. The truth is, science doesn’t support a clear cause-and-effect link. Autism is complex, influenced by genetics, environment, and many factors we’re still uncovering.

What matters most is compassion, understanding, and focusing on what can help our kids thrive.

The Real Risk Behind Tylenol and Brain Health

When glutathione levels drop, oxidative stress rises — and that’s where problems can start. Glutathione is your body’s master antioxidant, protecting your cells (including brain cells) from damage.

So if something like Tylenol depletes glutathione, it can tip the balance. Less antioxidant protection means more oxidative stress, which can impact brain development and overall cellular health.

The key takeaway? It’s not about fear — it’s about understanding how your body works so you can make smarter choices.

Genetics vs. Epigenetics — Know the Difference

Your genes are not your destiny. Genetics are what you’re born with — they don’t change. But epigenetics? That’s how your environment, lifestyle, and habits decide which of those genes get “turned on” or “turned off.”

For example, a woman who carries the BRCA gene for breast cancer isn’t guaranteed to develop it. Her environment, nutrition, stress, sleep, and lifestyle can all influence whether that gene ever expresses itself.

Understanding this difference empowers you to take control of your health — because while you can’t change your genes, you can influence how they behave.

The Truth About Tylenol and Autism

In medicine, there are rarely simple answers. When public figures claim “Tylenol causes autism,” it can do more harm than good. Nothing in medicine is ever that black and white — it’s complex, multifactorial, and deserves a deeper look.

Tylenol (acetaminophen) is one of the most widely used medications in the world. But what does the research actually say about its safety and potential long-term effects? Let’s break down the science and separate facts from fear.

Rethinking Autism and Psychedelics

Parents of children with autism spectrum disorder deserve every possible avenue of hope. Emerging research shows that psilocybin and other psychedelics may support neuroplasticity and brain rewiring — offering new insights for ASD, depression, and even healthy aging. Keeping an open mind and exploring science-backed possibilities can make all the difference.

The Hidden Danger in Your Medicine Cabinet

Most people think Tylenol is harmless, but even normal doses can be risky. It depletes glutathione — the body’s master antioxidant — leaving you vulnerable to liver damage, toxicity, and even organ failure. Combine it with alcohol, and the danger skyrockets.

Your liver deserves protection, not overload. Learn how to stay safe and support your body the right way.

Are We Really Seeing More Autism Today?

The latest CDC data shows that 1 in 31 children in the United States are now diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. That’s a big number, and it raises a lot of questions.

Some experts argue that the numbers reflect better awareness and earlier diagnosis, not necessarily more autism. But from what I see in my own clinical experience—and what many parents and teachers tell me—it feels like we truly are seeing more neurodivergent children today.

There’s no single cause. Autism is complex and multifactorial, involving genetics, environment, and development. What matters most is understanding, early detection, and giving every child the tools they need to thrive.

What the Science Really Says About Tylenol and Autism

There was a small study years ago that suggested a link between Tylenol (acetaminophen) use during pregnancy and autism. Researchers found higher levels of acetaminophen in cord blood among mothers whose children developed autism.

But science doesn’t stop at one study. A larger twin study followed, designed to remove confounding factors like genetics, environmental exposure, and chemical contact. The result? No association between Tylenol use and autism.

This is why we always need to look at the totality of evidence, not isolated findings that create unnecessary fear.
