Advocacy Network on Disabilities

Advocacy Network on Disabilities Since 1972, Miami-Dade County's lead agency to plan, provide, and coordinate services to individuals. Working for a world where we all belong

About the Advocacy Network with Disabilities

THE ADVOCACY NETWORK ON DISABILITIES champions the rights of individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities by promoting inclusion, providing services, and advancing systems change. Long before “collaboration” and “partnering” were buzz words, these principles were the foundation upon which The Advocacy Network on Disabilities was

founded. Since its beginnings as a subcommittee of South Florida's Health Planning Council in the early 1970s, The Advocacy Network on Disabilities has been a coalition of individuals with disabilities; family members; advocates; community service providers; and other public, private and governmental organizations. With an original focus on individuals with developmental disabilities, today the organization also provides supports and services to individuals with physical, sensory and other disabilities. Our mission is simple: “In partnership with people with disabilities and their families, The Advocacy Network on Disabilities advocates, coordinates and provides supports and services.”

Through facilitating community collaboration, fostering self-advocacy, and promoting acceptance, The Advocacy Network on Disabilities goals include:

1) Helping individuals identify and access supports and services;

2) Bringing unmet needs to the attention of decision-makers and advocating for change;

3) Providing expertise about best practices and specialized resources; and

4) Conducting outreach, education, and professional development activities. The Advocacy Network on Disabilities has a proven track record of excellence. Since 1975, its funders have continuously found the organization in compliance with both programmatic and administrative contract requirements. Consumer Satisfaction Surveys indicate that 96% of respondents are satisfied with the help they receive from us.

🚨 Action Alert: Disability Rights Programs are at Risk 🚨

AUCD joins National Council on Independent Living, National Disability Rights Network, Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, Amputee Coalition, National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities, and National Association of Statewide Independent Living Councils to stand united in calling on Congress to fully fund and preserve the vital federal programs that support independence, freedom, and full participation for people with disabilities.

These programs include:
🔹 University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs)
🔹 Independent Living Program
🔹 State DD Councils
🔹 Protection & Advocacy Programs (PAIMI, PAIR, PAVA, CAP)
🔹 Projects of National Significance
🔹 Limb Loss & Paralysis Resource Centers

These are not duplicative. Each one plays a unique, indispensable role in supporting disabled people to live, learn, work, vote, and thrive in their communities.

The FY 2026 budget proposal threatens these programs through harmful restructuring and consolidation. We cannot allow this.

📣 Tell Congress: Fund ALL these programs. Protect disability rights.

We are proud to announce that our team at the Advocacy Network on Disabilities recently completed a TLGBQ+ Cultural Sensitivity Training with the incredible educators at Transsocial . 🌈

This training was more than just a workshop—it was an empowering and necessary step toward fostering safe, inclusive, and affirming spaces for our TLGBQ+ community members. Led by trans-identified trainers, the session covered everything from gender-inclusive language and allyship to inclusive workplace practices and community history.

As an organization committed to equity, access, and justice, we recognize the importance of continued learning and accountability. We’re honored to take part in this journey alongside so many others working toward a more inclusive future. ♾️💙💚

We’re honoring Disability Pride Month at the intersection of outrage and heartbreak—because that’s where hope and dreams are born.

From love-fueled outrage comes action. And from action, change.

This month, we uplift the Disability Pride Flag, a symbol of our diversity and strength:

Green - Sensory

Blue - Psychiatric

White - Invisible & Undiagnosed

Yellow - Neurodivergent

Pink - Physical

Faded black background - Mourning victims of ableism

Let’s keep pushing forward, bringing our own chairs when none are offered.
