🧠 The Gut-Brain Connection:
Did you know your gut and brain are in constant communication? This powerful connection—known as the gut-brain axis—is made possible by the vagus nerve, a major communication pathway between the two.

🚫 When to NOT Use a Bumbo Seat for Your Baby 🚫

We know those popular baby Bumbo seats seem super convenient—but here are a few important reasons to think twice before using them regularly:

🍼 They force babies into a sitting position before they’re developmentally ready, which can delay natural milestones like rolling, crawling, and independent sitting. Typically by 6 months is when baby can sit on their own, which would be a better time to introduce Bumbo.

🧠 Movement is key for brain and body development! Babies learn by wiggling, shifting, and exploring their environment—not by being held in place.

🦴 They may place unnecessary pressure on the spine and hips, especially before those joints are strong and stable.

🧸 It can interfere with core muscle development, which is essential for posture, balance, and motor skills down the road.

Lake Health and Chiropractic – Miami is honored to participate in the Paper Doll Project for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) during the month of April—National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

We’re inviting everyone to come together in support of CASA, an organization dedicated to advocating for children in foster care.

🧸 From now until April 30th, we are accepting both monetary and clothing donations for children in the Ottawa County foster care system. You’re welcome to bring new or gently used children's clothing to our office during business hours.

We’ve “fostered” a paper doll to display in the office as a symbol of awareness and advocacy—and to help raise funds for this important cause. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.

A Deep Dive into the MTHFR Gene🌿🧬
Let's get nerdy 🤓 and talk about the MTHFR gene. The MTHFR gene is a part of everyone’s genome and helps to process and metabolize folate, or vitamin B9. Some people contain a mutation of this gene that prevents them from being able to absorb and process folate which can lead to certain health risks and complications, especially in pregnant women 🤰.
In these slides we take a deeper dive to help you understand the MTHFR gene and its mutations, along with the importance of taking a methylated form of folate.
