This year I wanted a curriculum that made teaching 3 kids in 3 different grades easier, that was faith-based, challenging but fun and after a LOT of research, these are my picks.

Wait, so should you be using speech strategies at home?

Absolutely. Yes. 100%. No question.

Because the way you talk to your toddler during snack time, playtime, diaper changes… all of it… can impact how and when they start talking.

The good news? You don’t need a degree to use these strategies.

You just need a speech therapist (hi 👋🏼) and a plan.

Avoid saying this word when teaching your child a new word!

❌”SAY”

✨When we want our child to say a new word we tell them “Say _____!” in an effort to get them to imitate the word.

✨Telling your child to say something puts pressure on them to talk and may cause them not to talk.
✨Telling a child to “say ___” doesn’t teach the child the meaning of the word or how to use the word. So modeling the word instead will be more effective in the long run.

✨I know it’s difficult to avoid the word “say”! It definitely was for me!

🙅🏻‍♀️INSTEAD OF telling your child “Say car!”
👍🏼Repeat and model the word “car” 3-5 times with pauses in between while playing with a car.

You don’t need to become a speech therapist to help your toddler talk more.

You just need to tweak the stuff you’re already doing like snack time, diaper changes, and bedtime stories… and turn them into language-building moments.

Babbling is an essential first step for your baby to learn to say their first words!

When your baby babbles, they are learning how to move their lips and tongue to produce words. Babbling also helps develop the muscles a child needs to speak.

Respond to your baby’s babbles by imitating their babies and acting as their interpreter.

If your child is delayed in babbling talk to a speech therapist.

Children who are delayed in babbling are at risk for a communication delay.

Here’s what I do differently...

I stopped chasing perfection and started focusing on being happy and present—because that’s what my kids truly needs.

Stop comparing myself to the perfect social media moms.

I make filling my own cup a priority, even if it’s just a quick walk or waking up at 5:30 to get a workout in before the kids wake up.

I ask for help when I need it and realize that the people who love me and my kids love to be a part of our lives.

I’ve learned to give myself grace when I need a break, knowing that it makes me a better mom when I’m recharged.

I’m more intentional about balancing what’s truly important: small, meaningful moments with my kids over trying to “do it all.”

I soak in the magic of the little things—like their giggles, hand-holding, and bedtime stories—because those moments are priceless. Take lots of pictures and videos (with me in them)

I love being a mom. I was made for this… even for the hard days.
