🧿 Your story began before your birth. How much do you know about yours?

As a mental health counselor, I often remind clients that the roots of who we are stretch back further than our own memories—sometimes further than our own lifetimes.

Before you took your first breath, the world was already shaping you.
Your family history, cultural identity, place of birth, and the social environment you were born into all began laying the groundwork for how you see yourself and how you navigate life.

Cultural traditions may influence your values, your view of relationships, and how you process emotions. Your parents' experiences and generational patterns—both spoken and unspoken—can shape your worldview. The neighborhood you were born into, the political climate, economic opportunities (or lack of them), and access to healthcare or education all set a context for your earliest development.

This isn’t about blame. It’s about awareness.
Understanding the conditions that shaped your foundation gives you power. It creates space for healing, for compassion toward your younger self, and for intentional growth.

🧿Your past isn’t your destiny. But it is part of your story—and your story matters.

Infant loss can look different for those experiencing it. Contrasting emotions, depressive symptoms, grief stages and questioning of self can all happen at once. Sending love to anyone who has experienced this. May you know that although it might feel lonely, you don't have to go through it alone.
