Women who get frequent UTIs may reduce risk by drinking plenty of water 👩🏻⚕️🦠📉
A recent study conducted by the Infectious Diseases Society of America revealed that women prone to UTIs can significantly reduce their risk by increasing their daily water intake by three pints.🚰
Lead author of the study, Dr. Thomas M. Hooton, clinical director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Miami School of Medicine, emphasized that this study validates doctors' recommendations for women at risk of UTIs to drink more water in order to lower the likelihood of these infections.📉
The issue lies in the fact that women have a shorter urethra, making it easier for bacteria to enter the re**um and subsequently the bladder.🚺 Therefore, increasing water intake aids in flushing bacteria from the bladder and preventing their concentration.🚫 Dr. Hooton explains that reducing the presence of bacteria eliminates a major cause of infection.🙅🏻♂️
The study included 140 healthy premenopausal women who had experienced at least three UTIs within the past year and had low daily fluid intake.👩🏼🦱 Half of the participants were instructed to consume an additional 1.5 liters of water per day, while the other half did not receive any specific treatment.📑 The results showed that the group with increased water intake reduced their antibiotic use by an average of 47% compared to the control group.🤓
Dr. Hooton concluded that the evidence suggests women with recurrent UTIs should prioritize increasing their water intake to effectively minimize the risk of UTIs.🚰➡️🦠
