SCOTT - BIOGRAPHY

“Human sensuality is a precious and unique gift that allows us to experience love, sadness, joy, pain and many other common emotions. In the arts, human sensuality can also be a platform for sharing impressions and ideas using poetry, music and visual imagery on both a conscious and subconscious level. Such sensual connections can be richly rewarding for both the artist and the lover of art and so form in very human and limitless terms, the essence and purpose of artistic expression.”

Born in 1952 in the city of La Paz, Bolivia from Scottish and Spanish ancestry on his paternal side, and Australian and Irish ancestry on his mother's side, Carlos' bicultural background and childhood experiences in those countries as well as here in the US have contributed to his artistic vision in subtle and varied ways. The improvisational quality of his subject matter may be traced back to Carlos' passion for sports, in particular, soccer, as it embodies the unexpected and spontaneous actions of the moment. A premature end to a promising career in professional soccer due to a serious knee injury served to refocus his creative passion and began exploring the world of art. During recovery and rehabilitation from surgery, Carlos began to paint with pastels and oils, while also exploring and developing a keen interest in photography and mixed media. His work has evolved from producing strictly representational themes to include abstract, semi-abstract, and impressionist images that highlight textures, colors, and forms found in common every-day subjects. Among his current motifs you can find reflections in the Miami River, the natural decaying process of leaves and plants, as well as the natural effects of time, weather and oxidation on metals and other materials. Though they may retain strong aspects of their original forms, many of the images are striking for their divergence, or, transformation into new forms, textures and colors that are choreographed in a spectacular movement across the spectrum. His style and vision endeavors to present something different that encompasses a clear overall impression that reveals additional interesting features and textures upon closer inspection. Artists as varied as: Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier Bresson, Georgia O'Keefe, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso
Jean-Michel Basquiat and Salvador Dali -- are prominent among the influences in shaping Carlos' artistic vision. Carlos has exhibited his work in several prestigious galleries in New York, Washington DC, including Art Basel in Florida. Partial List of Exhibitions:
