The Key Clubhouse of South Florida

The Key Clubhouse of South Florida Key Clubhouse is a nonprofit organization that helps people with mental illness recover through work. Membership in the Clubhouse is voluntary and free.

The Key Clubhouse of South Florida offers free rehabilitation and employment services to adults living with serious mental illness in Miami-Dade County. It is accredited with Clubhouse International, a network of more than 330 Clubhouses around the world that follow an internationally acclaimed program that helps people with mental illness reintegrate into the community. The Clubhouse offers pre-employment training, employment placement, a Wellness Program, assistance in accessing support services in the community, and low-cost breakfasts and lunches. Members participate in the operations of the Clubhouse by working side-by-side with trained staff in our Culinary and Business Units. Our History

The Key Clubhouse of South Florida organization was founded in 2008 by a grassroots group of family members and a young consumer. The group opened the doors of The Key Clubhouse in July 2010 in downtown Miami to its first 10 members. In 2013, the Clubhouse moved to the Dr. Barbara Carey-Shuler supportive housing complex, where it is now located.

We’re so excited to welcome Jessica Uzzell, JD to the Key Clubhouse Board of Directors 🩵🔑

Jessica is a philanthropy expert and attorney with experience in nonprofit strategy, governance, and community impact. She currently serves as Director of Philanthropic Strategy at The Miami Foundation, helping organizations grow and lead with purpose.

Before joining The Key Clubhouse, Luis struggled with anxiety and spent his days in unhealthy routines just trying to cope. But eight years ago, he took a chance — and everything began to change.

Through the structure, support, and community he found at the Clubhouse, Luis built healthier habits, regained stability, and recently secured employment with Honey Baked Ham. The daily battles are still there, but now he doesn’t face them alone — and he’s proud of how far he’s come. 💜

“My name is Robert Steve Carrion. I’m from Manhattan, New York, and I joined The Key Clubhouse in September 2021. Before joining, my days were spent watching TV, playing video games, and going to the gym or walking for hours. I focused on entertainment and fitness, but I wasn’t truly progressing.

The Clubhouse has changed that. It has helped me overcome procrastination and laziness, and motivated me to take on more responsibilities. Here, I learn how to multi-task and contribute whenever my peers or staff need support. I feel more organized, stronger, and confident. I now take my medication consistently, which helps me maintain stability, and I have more control over my mental health.

The Key Clubhouse feels like another home — a place where I’m educated, respected, and part of a family. I follow the model, respect my peers, and work toward building a better future. My goal is to find employment, attend Miami Dade College, and build a career that will allow me to support myself and help my family.
