ℹ️ Did you know that touch — especially around the mouth — plays a big role in your child’s ability to talk?

Here’s how:

👄 Oral Awareness Matters
Touch helps kids feel where their lips, tongue, and jaw are — key for learning to move them for speech sounds.

🍎 Feeding Builds Skills
Chewing, sucking, and mouthing toys provide important tactile input that strengthens the muscles used for talking.

🧠 The Brain Needs Sensory Practice
The more your child experiences different textures (e.g., crunchy, chewy, soft), the better their brain gets at coordinating mouth movements for speech.

🎯 Low Oral Awareness = Speech Challenges
Some kids have reduced oral sensitivity and may not feel or move their mouths clearly — which can lead to unclear speech or delays.

💬 Encourage Exploration!
Let your child explore safe textures with their hands and mouths. Think crunchy snacks, chewy toys, blowing bubbles, or even vibrating toothbrushes!

🧠✨ Did you know that sensory processing challenges can affect how a child learns to talk?

When the brain has trouble making sense of sights, sounds, or touch, it can impact how kids understand language and express themselves. This might look like delayed speech, trouble following directions, or frustration with communication.

🍼 Prolonged Pacifier or Bottle Use & Speech Development 🗣️

Did you know that extended use of bottles or pacifiers beyond age 2 can impact your child’s speech and articulation?

Here’s why it matters 👇
🔸 Oral muscles need proper development for clear speech. Prolonged sucking can alter the tongue’s resting position and reduce opportunities for talking.
🔸 It may lead to misarticulation of sounds like /s/, /z/, /t/, /d/, and /l/.
🔸 Some children develop tongue thrust or open bites, which can interfere with sound production.

💡 What you can do:
✔️ Wean off bottles/pacifiers by 12-18 months
✔️ Offer straw cups and open cups
✔️ Encourage babbling, singing, and talking during play
✔️ Consult a speech-language pathologist if you notice persistent speech errors

Recent research highlights that children learn most effectively through play. Studies show that play significantly enhances brain development in children.

At My Time, we employ various therapeutic techniques centered around play as our primary approach. This method allows us to engage children effectively and support them in reaching their fullest potential.

The benefits of Raising Billingual Kids 🧒 👦👦🏽👧🏻

The benefits of Raising Billingual Kids 🧒 👦👦🏽👧🏻

Approximately 20% of children in the United States speak a language other than English at home, with Spanish as the most common non-English language. The research on the benefits of bilingualism is constantly growing. Becoming bilingual supports children to maintain strong ties with their entire family, culture, and community—key parts of a child developing his or her identity. However, some big misconceptions about learning two languages persist.

HERE! 3 Myths and Facts About Bilingual Children Learning Language

Myth: Speaking two languages to a child may cause a speech or language disorder.

Fact: If a bilingual child has a speech or language problem, it will show up in both languages. However, these problems are not caused by learning two languages. Bilingualism should almost never be used an explanation for speech or language disorder.

Myth: Children with speech or language processing disorders can have more difficulty learning a second language.

Fact: Children with speech and language disorders may have more difficulty learning a second language but research shows many can do so successfully.

Myth: Exposing infants and toddlers to more than one language may cause delays in their speech or language development.

Fact: Milestones of pre-language development are the same in all languages. Like other children, most bilingual children speak their first words by age one (i.e., mama, dada). By age two, most bilingual children can use two-word phrases (i.e., my ball, no juice). These are the same developmental milestones for children who learn only one language. A bilingual toddler might mix parts of a word from one language with parts from another language. While this might make it more difficult for others to understand the child's meaning, it is not a reflection of abnormal or delayed development. The total number of words (the sum of words from both languages the child is learning) should be comparable to the number used by a child the same age speaking one language.
