Had a great time at the 33rd annual meeting for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. The AMSSM was created to advance the discipline of sports medicine through education, research, advocacy, and excellence in patient care.

A bunch of PM&R Sports Medicine physicians from universities across the country (University of Maryland, Albert Einstein, Columbia, University of Miami, Johns Hopkins, Dartmouth, Icahn School of Medicine) served as faculty for the "Sideline Management Assessment Response Techniques - Emergency Sports Trauma Workshop".

Dr. Sandra de Mel and I presented a case: "Extending the Diagnosis Beyond De Quervain's Tenosynovitis: A Rare Cause of Wrist Pain".

Always fun to catch up with friends and colleagues, mentors and former trainees!

Exciting and exhausting day covering the 52nd annual NYC Marathon! Flew from Miami with one of our star residents Dr. Sandra de Mel. There were approximately 50,000 runners, and we took care of everything from exercise associated collapse, hypothermia, hyponatremia, and minor acute traumas!

PS I didn't run but my legs feel like I did

It was a pleasure to share 2 of my research projects with the sports medicine community at the annual meeting for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine in Phoenix.

1. Podium presentation on a study assessing the perceived preparedness of graduating sports medicine fellows nationally. They overall felt prepared across 7 domains, but there were some subdomains that had room for improvement - particularly, non-clinical aspects of medicine.

2. Oral poster presentation by one of my star residents Dr. Javier Santana on a study looking for differences between the primary specialties for sports medicine fellows. We compared Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. We found that overall, there are no differences in preparation for fellowship. The implications are many, including that all primary specialties are equipped to practice sports medicine in full capacity.
