💚✨ March is Women’s History Month

This month, we celebrate the incredible women who have shaped our history and continue to make a difference every day. The 2026 theme, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” highlights women who are reimagining and rebuilding systems—environmental, economic, educational, and societal—to create a future rooted in equity, justice, and opportunity for all.

At NAMI Miami-Dade, we honor the strength, resilience, and influence of women in our community, especially those who advocate for mental health and empower others. Women play a vital role in fostering connection, promoting understanding, and creating spaces for healing and growth.

Let’s celebrate the women who paved the way, those who continue to inspire us today, and the next generation of women shaping a brighter, more sustainable future. ✨💚

💚✨ Black History Month Spotlight: Dr. Olivia Ho**er

In honor of Black History Month and this year’s theme, A Century of Black History Commemorations, NAMI Miami-Dade proudly recognizes Olivia Ho**er, a trailblazing psychologist, educator, and military pioneer whose life embodied resilience and leadership. She made history as the first African American woman to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. These experiences shaped her lifelong commitment to justice and service.

Dr. Ho**er went on to earn her doctorate in psychology, become a professor at Fordham University, and found APA Division 33, which advocates for individuals with developmental disabilities and advances equity within the field of psychology.

This Black History Month, we honor the strength, vision, and groundbreaking achievements of Dr. Olivia Ho**er and celebrate how her legacy continues to inspire service, scholarship, and opportunity for future generations. ✨💚

💚✨💬 You’re invited to Tonight’s Ask the Expert speaker meeting!

Join us this evening, Thursday, February 26th, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm for an engaging and informative conversation on How Brain Stimulation Is Transforming Mental Health Care. Tonight, we’re joined by Dr. Rachel Rohaidy, M.D., a double board-certified psychiatrist with Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, who will share her expertise on advanced treatments for depression, including noninvasive brain stimulation therapies.

Together, we’ll explore how modern, noninvasive brain stimulation therapies safely target circuits involved in mood and behavior, helping patients experience meaningful relief when traditional treatments haven’t worked. This session will offer insight into how these innovations are reshaping mental health care and providing renewed hope to patients and families.
