What is LIP INCOMPETENCE? 🤔
Lip incompetence is the lips’ inability to COMFORTABLY rest together in a closed position without STRAINING the muscles around your mouth. For some patients, they have to force their lips shut. Some patients may even show signs of strain in the muscles around the face when a lip seal is attempted. They often exhibit dimpling and buckling in their chin, or a slight tugging at the tip of their nose when pressing their lips together. Long-term, this can result in an “open-mouthed” condition when the mouth is at rest.
The chin muscle, medically known as the mentalis muscle, raises the central portion of the lips. Thus, in order for her to close her mouth, she had to force it close with the side of the chin muscle. If you look closely at her before photo, there is very visible dimpling of the skin on her chin due to the added strain/stress on her chin muscle to forcefully close her mouth.
Did you know that adding volume to the body of the lip can help with this issue? Plumping the lips 👄 will actually help assist in sealing “the gap” between the top and the bottom lips. This in turn helps reduce the strain around the mouth, chin, or nasal tip as you no longer need to “force” your lips to shut. Can you appreciate the impact this procedure has made? ✨👌
In her after photo, with the added volume and vertical ↕️ height to her lips (most especially her top lip), less distance has to be taken to “comfortably” close her mouth. Thus, you can now see that there is less tension in her chin (less dimpling) and it appears smoother than the before picture. Her results were achieved over 2 sessions using a total of 1 mL (1 syringe 💉) 💉👄💋👩🏻⚕️
