The neglected middle child of mental health can dull your motivation and focus — and it may be the dominant emotion of 2021.

A sobering look at the current state of affairs in the psychotherapy world.
I’m grateful for my Evergreen community, and for getting to weather this storm with you through our screens ❤️

To my Evergreen Therapy community,

It came into my awareness this morning that my activity on social media, in light of George Floyd’s killing and the protests that have followed, has been limited to my personal pages. I’m sorry for that. Please know that my silence on this page has been unintentional. I stand by the Black community and am committed to continuing to direct my time, my energy, my voice, and my money toward the Black Lives Matter movement and all causes supporting justice, equity, and the end of police brutality.

I’ve been encouraged by the sessions I’ve had with so many of you this past week, in which we’ve talked about race, freedom, privilege, systemic oppression, and the connections between our personal work and the work that’s needed in our country and our world. Our conversations inspire me. You make me hopeful.

As we continue to bear witness to what’s unfolding in our communities, let’s aim to keep our minds and our hearts open. Let’s stand for justice. Let’s be a voice for those who don’t have one. Let’s work to see more clearly, to understand more deeply, to confront ourselves more directly, and to never stop seeking to do better.

I wrote this article in 2017, but it seems more relevant now than ever. Sharing in the hopes that it might bring some peace and clarity in this time of uncertainty. Much love.

A positive relationship with fear is not only possible—it's transformative.
