Salary : Based on Experience
Position Summary:
The Ophthalmic Assistant generates important preliminary information to be used by the ophthalmologist; reviews patient status and performs medical tests.
Job Description:
* Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of symptoms, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately.
* Provides primary ophthalmic care to patients including dilating pupils, check visual acuity, take intraocular pressure and act as clinical assistant to physician.
* Performs sub-specialty tests (refraction, VF test, A-Scan Biometry (IOL master), Optos and Pachymetry).
* Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders, use of drops, contact lenses, drugs, and answer questions about surgery and specialty imagining required/ordered.
* Process prescription refill requests.
* Sets up and prep for minor OR procedures to include setting sterile tray and maintaining sterile field.
Skills & Abilities:
* Good computer skills. Able to navigate between screens: able to accurately enter data.
* Must speak English and Spanish
Experience:
*One year of specialized ophthalmic experience is desirable or completion of on-the-job training upon hiring.
*Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) credential preferred
