There should be no pulling, immediate cutting or tearing during birth. Birth is a patient process. Tell your doctors and nurses to be patient during your child's birth.
You can request:
1. No episiotomy - Cutting with scissors
2. Do not immediately cut the cord - Let the cord go limp (pure white).
3. Do not pull or tug on the baby.
4. Let the baby birth itself.

AN ODE TO MY DAUGHTER //

my love
my angel
my precious sweet divine delight
you've been on my mind for my whole life
you've been in my heart forever
and now you've been in my life for three whole months and i could not be happier
you are healthy
your are strong
you are happy and you are so loved
Matilda Rose 💗🌹💗
brave battle maiden
First born daughter
child of the earth and Sun and stars
courageous, fierce and wild
starry eyed diamond child
you have made me a mother
You have made me whole
So on your three month birthday and the marked end of our fourth trimester of pregnancy
I say
be wild, be free, be yourself and be kind
Sing, dance, speak and roar your truth in this life my precious babe
i will be here as a guiding light
doing my best, holding your hand and letting you fall and make mistakes, however much it pains me to do so
because this is your life
your precious life
and i want you to live it to the full
learning, growing, falling, failing
Rising up against all odds and adversities
and always knowing, always feeling that you are loved, no matter what
my precious star child
because i prayed for you
I cast shells into the ocean for you
i wished on every bright star for you
i hoped and i dreamed and imagined you .
I made earth altars, mandalas and intentional art from the depths of my heart for you
and now you are here.
And you are perfect.
and i am so grateful.
So shine! ✨

✨ BREASTMILK CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE FEED 💦

Early in the feed, the milk has a lower fat content. This helps to quench the baby’s thirst.

As the feed goes on, the fat content of the milk rises, which satisfies the baby's hunger.

A baby who is allowed to finish the first breast, so that he feeds until he comes off by himself before being offered the second breast, receives the higher fat milk.

At times your baby may be satisfied with just one breast, at others he may also want the second side, or even a third.

By switching which breast you feed from first, you will ensure each breast keeps making a good amount of milk.

A well drained breast ensures more milk is made quickly.

YOU ARE COSMIC //

Ladies, you are more than just your vessel.

You are stardust, magic, a force of nature 🌌✨☄️

Being thin postpartum is NOT an indicator of recovery. We are more than just a vessel. And while we are grateful and in awe of what our bodies are capable of, we must honour ourselves as a whole person - mind, body and soul.

It is so easy to forget that first and foremost we are a woman. Yes, we are mothers, but we are also beautiful, independent women, with our own needs.

Nurture yourself, be kind to yourself, love yourself. In doing so, we have the capacity to nurture and love those around us.

✨ Boundless love to you ✨

BIRTH IS NATURAL //

Birth is designed to work if no one is there. Women who are supported through the normal physiology of labor and birth will almost always give birth to healthy newborns without the need for interventions. Think about it: birth has only existed under the care of hospitals and physicians for a few hundred years. For thousands of years, women did this alone or with the support of a few other women. Sure, there were times that modern medicine may have been helpful. But for the vast majority of women, evolution has crafted a system that works well almost all of the time.

HOW YOUR BREASTS MAKE AND GIVE MILK 💦

The skin covering the ni**le contains many nerves that are triggered by the baby’s sucking. This causes hormones to be released into the mother’s bloodstream.

One of these hormones (prolactin) acts on the milk-making tissue, building up the milk supply.

The other hormone (oxytocin) causes the breast to push out or release the milk already there.

This release of milk is known as the let-down reflex(sometimes called the milk ejection reflex).

The more often your baby’s sucking causes a let-down and the more milk that is removed from your breasts, the more milk will be made.

Respond to your baby’s feeding cues. Crying is a late sign of hunger.

Breastfeed your baby often.

Don’t limit time at the breast or delay the time between feeds. A well drained breast ensures more milk is made quickly.

The breasts are never completely empty.

Babies stop feeding when they have had enough, while at the same time, your breasts are already at work making more milk.

Whatever your baby drinks is automatically replaced, producing a constant supply, perfectly matched to their need, whenever they needs it.

BABIES ARE BORN, NOT DELIVERED //
"My pet hate: the word ‘delivered’ it annoys me more than anything! It suggests a woman didn’t participate, she was a passive ‘observer’ in her birth. You mama, you BIRTH your baby, no one does it for you - you hold all the power and YOU deserve all the glory!! You conceive your baby, you nurture your baby and YOU BIRTH YOUR BABY! Even if it's via c/section.
When everyone realizes women hold the power in the maternity ‘business’, the way we birth will change, our experience postpartum will change, the way we feel about ourselves will CHANGE! We are not powerless, hysterical women in need of rescuing! YOU are a bad ass birthing woman, you can step into your light and birth the way you want!! Rant over!"

Babies are not brought to you, you bring them into the world ✨

WHY CHANGES IN THE AR**LA OCCUR //

The changes in the ar**la during pregnancy occur for good reason.

The darker skin on the ar**la provides a stark contrast, which helps the baby spot the milk source. Newborns have blurry eyesight and the prominent difference in colour may help them latch on easier. The skin thickens to prepare for suckling, which can be very painful at first. Enlarged ni**les are better for nursing and the thicker skin offers protection from injury.

The Montgomery glands protect the area from infection and they provide a lubricant to prepare the skin for breastfeeding.

Areolar glands or Montgomery Glands are sebaceous glands in the ar**la surrounding the ni**le. (Small bumps on the ar**la). The glands make oily secretions to keep the ar**la and the ni**le lubricated and protected. Volatile compounds in these secretions may also serve as an olfactory stimulus for newborn appetite 🤓
