This acting and aerobics star had it right, and the unique time we’re living in right now is a great way to hone in on the things and people that make us feel whole and fulfilled. Take the time to do a self-audit of the things in your life that make you feel like you’re not enough, and do the work to carve them out. At the same time, intentionally add things into your days that make you feel like the person you know you’re supposed to be, whether that’s writing poetry, gardening, or listening to music that makes your soul happy.

Setting goals is an important part of a healthy mindset, and I think that learning to set goals is how you can start to create meaningful change in your life. Whether in my physical office or my virtual office, my mission for each client is to provide an open environment where we can work together to set goals, break barriers, and create a fulfilling, healthy life rich in self-love and self-care. Tap the link in my bio to learn a little more about me. I’d love to schedule a consultation to see if we’re the right fit.

Everyone has those days where motivation is low, moods are tense, and negative self-talk is higher than normal. Instead of letting your entire day sour because of it, work on cultivating a good days “toolkit” that you can reach for to help you ground yourself, uplift your mood, and elevate your endorphins.
+ Create a go-to playlist for days where you feel a little funky, and fill it with those songs that make you want to dance every single time you hear them.
+ Make your favorite meal or drink just because you can, and relish every second of shaking cinnamon onto your latte or plating the perfect recipe.
+ Bookmark the funniest episode of your favorite TV show, and take 30 minutes from your day to giggle at it.
+ Light a candle or diffuse some oils in a scent that always makes you happy, whether it’s riesling-scented or specifically blended for joy.
No day is ever perfect, and you shouldn’t expect them to be. However, taking the time to create routines and environments that improve your mood and boost your mental health is a great way to stay on top of the bad days.

The internet is full of a lot of inspiring quotes and motivational talks about using this time as the perfect jumping-off point for writing a new book, starting a new business, or redesigning your life. While that’s great for some, it’s not for everybody. We’re living through a collectively traumatic time, and sometimes managing to pour a cup of coffee in the morning is as good as it’s going to get for the day. Pssst … that’s okay. Instead of getting caught up in a productivity trap or production mentality, realize that honoring your anxieties, discovering your new normal, and embracing the present moment is just fine, too.

As we all work to navigate this new normal, a lot of us are now newly working from home. While working from home can be great, it can also be really isolating and lonely for a lot of people used to working in office environments -- especially in times like these. Here are a couple of my go-to tips for staying productive while keeping a thumb on the outside world, too:
+ Keep a level of structure in your day, whether that means setting office hours or time-blocking your tasks.
+ Work from a designated workspace in your home -- preferably, not your bed -- to remind your brain that the rest of your home is for living, not working.
+ During your lunch break, call a friend or family member to decompress from your day so far.
+ Take intentional steps to add movement in your day, whether that’s a morning yoga flow or a lunchtime dog walk.
+ When the end of your workday comes, challenge yourself to close your laptop and leave it in your workspace. Boundaries make a huge difference.

This month feels really heavy for a lot of us, and that’s okay. In the midst of harrowing news and upticked anxiety, take the time to honor your worries and feelings instead of burying them deep under everything else.
+ Try a morning meditation instead of a morning Twitter scroll.
+ Make your daily routines into a grounding practice by taking deep breaths as you stir your coffee, saying a mantra as you brush your teeth, or taking the time to stretch after rolling out of bed.
+ Get outside (safely) for at least 30 minutes a day to walk or soak in the fresh air.
+ Journal out any fear you’re feeling by tangibly putting into words.
Remember that this time is unprecedented for all of us, and you’re certainly not alone. By letting your feelings take up space instead of hiding them and by taking the time to honor yourself first, things get a little easier.

There’s this idea that in order to live a meaningful life, we need to eliminate all pain. But it’s just not true. What we need is to find ways to stop punishing ourselves for the pain ALL of us feel. Pain won’t go away, but the way we deal with it can certainly change.
It can be easy to forget we’re not the only ones facing challenges or hurt -- whether it’s from past trauma or a current problem. Every single person has stories and grief they carry.
Holding your pain and realizing it’s completely normal is the thing that will allow you to live a fuller life. It will never go away, and that is okay.

How can you offer love and acceptance today rather than immediately going into advice? I’ve found it’s uncomfortable for most people to simply listen without wanting to offer a solution or opinion to someone else’s problems. But most of us simply need our loved ones’ attention and time.

Feeling overwhelmed? Here are a few things you can do to counteract the feelings of not being in control. Try this the next time you feel stressed out or consumed by your emotions.
+ Spend time with others: call a friend, make plans with your partner, hang out with a pet.
+ Ground yourself: take a technology break, walk barefoot in grass, notice your 5 senses.
+ Ask yourself if you have any basic needs: eat, take a shower, drink water.
+ Move your body: dance, stretch, walk, do yoga, run.

Not every relationship is meant to last a lifetime. Toxic people drain energy and leech your worth from you. It’s never easy letting go of people we love, but if you are in a toxic relationship (no matter how close you are with the person) it is always better to save your mental health and part ways. Here are some signs of toxic people:
1. You feel emotionally drained and exhausted after being around them.
2. They’re pushy or intimidating in order to get their way.
3. They easily become jealous.
4. They guilt you into doing what they want or agreeing with them.
5. They won’t take no as an answer.
6. They only issue backhanded compliments
7. They have no respect for your boundaries.

If you feel the need to heal, change, or fix others, remember that the ONLY person who can control someone is that person. “Fixing” might feel good or help us feel worthier or give us a distraction when we really need to be working on something within ourselves. But it will never play out how we hope, demand, or expect.
Instead:
+ Use that energy to go inward and focus on yourself.
+ Ask yourself WHY you feel the need to fix.
+ Spend your time and energy healing your trauma and letting go of your desire to change others.
Most people don’t need to be fixed, they need to be heard, seen, and understood.

Reminder: it’s okay to not have all the answers yet. Figuring it out, one day at a time, as you go is a beautiful part of life, if you let it be. Remaining focused on the present will only allow you to enjoy whatever unfolds immensely more than trying to jump ahead and worry about what’s next. Let it be.
