Culture and community can sometimes be a barrier towards seeking care due to the stigma surrounding mental health. However, mental health struggles do not discriminate. They are ever present in all communities regardless of race, culture, gender, identity, or socioeconomic status.

Connecting with people is key to our survival as social beings. We need people in order to thrive and lead a fulfilling life.

Healthy dependency is the development of intimate and vulnerable relationships where we can lean on and rely on our chosen support system.

Similarly to other mental health struggles, there is a lot of stigma surrounding PTSD and consequently a lot of popular myths that prevent people from getting the help they need.

PTSD does not just impact military personnel, it is not a sign of weakness, nor does it go away over time when untreated.
🌱
PTSD symptoms can include flashbacks, hyper vigilance, avoidance, as well as several other emotional, physical, and relational symptoms.

This week we took a brief hiatus from our social media presence. Sometimes disconnecting can be an important form of self-care that allows us to regroup and recharge.

There can be a thin line sometimes between disconnecting and isolating. Checking in with yourself about your intention behind disconnecting is important.

Ask yourself, why do I feel the need to disconnect? Is there something I’m avoiding? Am I still responding to others when they reach out or making efforts to connect? Is this something that’s bringing me peace or making me feel more depressed/anxious?
