Make rules that are right for your child's age. Rules work best for children who are school-aged. Younger children (infants and toddlers) don't understand rules yet. They are still learning what a rule is.

Some children may interpret sounds more intensely than others such as outside noise, this can cause them to be distracted by the background noise. Try providing calming music or white noise to block out the other auditory input.

Correct behavior soon after the inappropriate behavior occurs but wait until your anger has passed. Counting to 10 before you say something or do something may help reduce your anger, so you are in control of yourself and avoid being reactive.

When do children learn words for thoughts and feelings? Age 3: At this age, children start to use more complicated words like “think”, “know”, and “guess”. At this stage, children may use these words to keep the conversation going without truly understanding what the words mean. For example, they might say things like “I don’t know”, “I think so”, or “Know what?”.

When do children learn words for thoughts and feelings? Age 2: their first words for thoughts and feelings revolve around their own wants and needs, for example, “I want a cookie.” They also notice things with their senses like, “I see a cat”, and their physical feelings, “I’m hungry”. Gradually, young children will learn to talk about what’s going on in other peoples’ minds like saying, “He’s mad.”
