Sleep Medicine Specialists of South Florida is a comprehensive sleep center specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders in adults and children. Our fully bilingual doctor and staff is here to help you improve your sleep. We have the ability to efficiently and accurately diagnose your sleep problems, and we tailor highly specialized treatment to fit your exact needs. There are 84 documented sleep disorders and many people will, at some point in their lives, suffer from one or more of these disorders. Even snoring is considered a sleep disorder and we address this condition in our office. Sleep medicine is a relatively new field of medicine that focuses on sleep disorders such as sleep apnea syndromes, insomnia, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, circadian rhythm disorders and parasomnias. Some of the conditions we treat involve performing a sleep study. A sleep study is a non-invasive, pain-free clinical assessment tool to help identify sleep disorders. The studies can be done in home or in a sleep lab. We strive to obtain a minimum of 6 hours of recording time. As mentioned before, this study is painless and it allows us to monitor your brain waves, eye movements, chin movements, snoring, breathing patterns, oxygen level, heart rate, heart rhythm and leg movements. For some sleep disorders, however, some patients may also need to perform daytime sleep studies.

There are two types of insomnia based on the regularity and duration of the sleep disturbance and daytime symptoms:

Short-term insomnia: This type of insomnia lasts for up to three months. At any given time, it occurs in 15 to 20 percent of people.
Chronic insomnia: This type of insomnia occurs at least three times per week and lasts for at least three months. About 10 percent of people have chronic insomnia.

A sleep doctor, like us, diagnoses chronic insomnia. We will help to make sure there is nothing else in your sleep causing chronic insomnia. Learn more:
