Fertility is Standard of Care — Not Optional
Fertility preservation is not a “nice-to-have.” It is standard oncology care.

Up to ~50% of reproductive-age women with cancer report never being informed about infertility risk or preservation options before treatment begins. That gap can lead to long-term regret, distress, and inequity in care.

Guidelines from ASCO, ASRM, NCCN, and ONS are clear:
• Discuss fertility risk as early as possible
• Refer to reproductive specialists when appropriate
• Document discussions
• Revisit at treatment completion

Uncertainty does not eliminate the obligation to counsel. Shared decision-making is part of informed consent.

Survivorship Begins at Diagnosis — And Lasts a Lifetime
“An individual is considered a cancer survivor from the time of diagnosis through the balance of his or her life.”

Survivorship is not a phase — it is a lifelong journey that includes physical, psychological, sexual, and menopausal health.

Breast cancer survivors may experience:
• Sexual dysfunction
• Vaginal dryness
• Fear of recurrence/PTSD
• Cognitive changes (“chemo brain”)
• Fatigue
• Bone loss
• Cardiovascular and metabolic risks

Long-term effects begin during treatment and persist. Late effects can appear months or years later.

Survivorship care must go beyond recurrence prevention — it must address quality of life.
