Cortisone injections are generally safe, but there are risks and side effects.

Pain results could be positive for some people but in many cases pain is not resolved at all. A “cortisone flare” can occur in the days after the injection, causing pain that may be worse than before the procedure. This pain usually goes away after about 72 hours

While rare, the risk of infection increases with each injection

Cortisone can increase the risk of tendon ruptures, especially within the first two weeks after the injection.

High doses of steroids can break down cartilage, which can lead to other foot problems like arthritis.

The skin around the injection site may darken, lighten, or become hardened and dimpled.

Steroids can damage the body’s stem cells, which are responsible for repairing damaged tissue.

Other side effects of cortisone injections include: Bruising, A temporary increase in blood sugar, Insomnia, Facial flushing, and Dizziness.

Plantar fasciitis is primarily an overuse injury causing micro-tears of the plantar aponeurosis.
This condition can occur due to trauma or other multiple factors.

However there is a common denominator in the majority of the cases “Musculoskeletal Imbalance “

Muscles that passes through the retinaculum are weak due to inactivity or tightness of the antagonist muscles.

These muscles weaknesses affect the ability to maintain a healthy, stable and strong plantar fascia leading to a repetitive injury and causing micro-tears, inflammation and pain.
