Last week’s Grand Rounds featured the Radiology Training Program Endowed Fund Award and Research Presentations.

Congratulations to this year’s awardees, Waseem Wahood (R2), and Yu-Cheng Chang (R4), for receiving the Robert M. Quencer, MD Radiology Training Program Endowed Fund Awards. This recognition highlights their excellence in radiology research and supports the continued development of their innovative projects.

We are sincerely grateful to Dr. Quencer and the Endowment Committee for their ongoing commitment to advancing resident research and academic growth.

Meet our residents!
To wrap up the year, now it’s the turn for the last of our IR/DR R1s, Mari 👩🏻‍⚕️🌅

Dr. Marisabel Linares Bolsegui, MD, MPH.

• Hometown: La Victoria, Venezuela 🇻🇪
• Med School: Universidad de Carabobo
• Internship: General Surgery- MedStar Health, Georgetown University
• Subspecialty of interest: IR/ IO
• Why UM? The volume and complexity of cases here are unlike anything else, both intense and uniquely challenging, creating a training environment that shapes confident, technically strong, and thoughtful IRs. Latino doctors remain underrepresented in the US, while nearly 70% of Miami’s population is Hispanic. Training here allows me to serve and give back to my community. And beyond that, Miami is an extraordinary city and a place I proudly call home. I have never felt more grounded, purposeful, and aligned with my mission than I do here.
• Fun Fact: My mom is an artist, so I grew up between art galleries and exhibits. I’ve probably geeked out over contemporary art a little too much. My favorite museum is the MoMA, and my favorite artists are Jean-Michel Basquiat and Pablo Picasso.

Dr. Anders Gould, MD

• Hometown: Seattle, WA
• Med School: Carle Illinois College of Medicine
• Internship: General Surgery, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health
• Subspecialty of interest: Interventional Radiology
• Why UM? Both UM and Jackson offer exposure to a high-volume complex case mix, making it an ideal training program for IR and DR. There is also a strong sense of camaraderie among faculty and residents, making it a great place to grow and learn. Miami is also a wonderful city to live in with tons of events and activities to enjoy outside of work.
• Fun Fact: I enjoy playing the guitar

Dr. Manuel Vasquez, MD
• Hometown: Miami
• Med School: University of Central Florida
• Internship: TY at Holy Cross Hospital
• Subspecialty of interest: in between Neuro 🧠 and MSK 🦴
• Why UM? I chose UMiami because of the strong clinical training, the diverse and complex pathology, and the culture of pushing residents to grow. I also wanted to be close to home and train in a place that balances high expectations with real support
• Fun Fact: I’m a long-distance runner currently training for a marathon, and I’m really into cooking and learning different cuisines. I also enjoy playing video games and working on small home projects when I have the time.

Moreover, Miami is one of the best cities in the world, and people here share many of the same values that are similar to my culture.🦩
Fun fact: We changed 4 states within the last 5 years, split our family all over the country last year in order for me to complete the intern year, and finally found piece in Miami and now call it Home 🫶
