So what further regulation would be suitable on v**e products and companies?

“Taxation. Youth are among the most price sensitive user group and will reduce purchase of these products if the price goes up. Support To***co 21 laws and put teeth (against retailers who violate the regulation) in the enforcement,” said Hays, also suggesting that limiting the size and ni****ne content of pods would be another prudent step. “Today, a 5% ni****ne Juul pod contains more ni****ne than 30 -40 ci******es,” he added.

Juul's voluntary decision to pull fruit flavored va**ng pods from sale, had no long-term effect on sales, with consumers simply switching to other flavors or brands.

Because the coronavirus targets the lungs, doctors and public health officials are adding new urgency to their longstanding plea for smokers and v**ers to quit — or at least slow down.

Both habits can compromise lung function. Early Covid-19 studies have shown that cigarette smokers in particular are more susceptible to the infection and suffer more severe cases. Doctors are raising similar concerns about v**ers.

People who smoke and v**e may be at greater risk for Covid-19, but quitting is hard, especially now. The good news: There are a lot of helpful resources.

Today, Florida’s State University System is transitioning to remote learning in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In an abundance of caution, and following the lead of Governor Ron DeSantis, at Florida International University FIU we are responding by beginning remote learning this Thursday.

Update No. 15: Face-to-face classes will take place using online tools through at least Saturday, April 4.

Matt says these findings suggest cigarette smokers—or people who have been exposed to smoke—are carrying the compounds with them and depositing them as they slowly evaporate.

The process, known as “off-gassing,” is the reason why smokers smell like ci******es, explains Peter DeCarlo, an expert in air pollution at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, who was not involved in the study. “You’re not smelling the chemicals that are bound to the person’s clothes,” he says. “You’re smelling the ones that are coming off.”

To date, there have been nearly 3,000 hospitalizations and 68 deaths due to electronic cigarette or va**ng product use-associated lung injury in the United States.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that vitamin E acetate, an unregulated additive in some tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)-containing va**ng products, is strongly linked to this outbreak.

“Forty percent of smokers don’t get advised to quit,” Dr. Adams said in an interview.

“That was a shocking statistic to me, and it’s a little embarrassing as a health professional.” Dr. Adams is referencing to statistics from the 2015 National Health Interview Survey, collected through the U.S. Census Bureau to monitor “the health of the nation,” that found that four out of nine adult cigarette smokers were not told by a health professional to quit smoking in the past year.

Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams warned in a report released last week that a “shocking” number of smokers are not advised …

Since mid-August, 2,506 lung injury cases and 54 deaths linked to va**ng have been reported. Most patients were otherwise healthy and in their late teens and 20s. But after using a va**ng device to inhale ni****ne, THC or a combination of the two, many ended up in an emergency room, gasping for breath.

The likely culprit: an additive made with vitamin E oil. Several states and cities have imposed bans, mainly on flavored e-ci******es as a precaution.

Developments in medicine and health that we’re still thinking about at year’s end.
