A mammogram is an imaging test that uses low-dose X-rays to examine breast tissue.
It’s the most effective tool for detecting breast cancer in its earliest stages, even before symptoms appear or lumps can be felt.
Its main purpose is to identify abnormal changes in the breast, such as microcalcifications or masses, which may indicate benign or malignant conditions.
Detecting breast cancer early greatly increases the chances of successful treatment and helps preserve quality of life.
✅️ When should you start having mammograms?
It is recommended that women begin having a mammogram every year starting at age 40. However, if you have a family history of breast cancer or genetic risk factors, screening should begin earlier — sometimes around age 35, or as advised by your doctor.
✅️ You should also get a mammogram before age 40 if:
✔️ You feel a lump in your breast or underarm.
✔️ You notice ni**le discharge or inversion.
✔️ You observe changes in the color, shape, or texture of your breast skin.
✔️ You’ve had previous breast lesions or a history of cancer.
A mammogram is more than a test — it’s an act of prevention and self-care. Early detection can save your life. 💗
