She knew that when people met her, they’d marvel at her strength and resilience.
They imagine that she was just born that way and everything comes easy..
And that’s okay, they’re welcome to think what they want, because they will anyways.
No one but her closest friends knew her journey and that’s the way she wanted it to be.
The world doesn’t need to know the price she paid to become a force of nature-
Her sacrifices, failures and setbacks aren’t necessary for the public opinion of her..
But they are part of her story.
Her narrative is a tale of growing from a broken young girl learning to survive on her own without help from anyone.
She didn’t become bitter by the rejections, disappointments and struggle..
She became better.
Each day, she learned a little more, grew a bit stronger and fought a little harder for her dreams.
She didn’t ask for pity, help or sympathy..
She just found a way to always get it done.
And one day, that same little girl looked in the mirror and realized that she had become a strong woman.
A warrior, in fact, that was capable of so much more than anyone ever believed she could do.
She smiled broadly in that moment because she knew she had earned every bit of who she had become.
And the ones who wanted to doubt her?
She’d just lower her gaze and invite them to walk through the fire with her.
She had learned long ago how to walk through the fire and emerge tougher and unscathed..
So she just did what she always had done:
Keep going, keep fighting and keep winning.
She’d walk past the disrespect and dismissals of others and kept rising.
She had a life to conquer and she wasn’t going to let anyone or anything stand in her way.
Success with character.
Victory with respect.
Happiness with heart.
Maybe she didn’t change the world, but she knew she could always change her world…
And that’s what mattered to her.
How do I know this little girl now all grown up..
The strong warrior I see before me?
She is me..
And I’m still rising.
