Your kid’s eczema isn’t a skin problem. It’s an inflammation problem. 🌿

If you’re stuck in the steroid cream cycle - flare-up, treat, temporary relief, repeat - you’re not alone. And you’re not crazy for thinking there has to be a better way.

Eczema and hives are your child’s body pushing internal inflammation OUT through the skin.
But where does that inflammation come from?
The nervous system.

When your child’s nervous system is dysregulated, it triggers chronic inflammation, histamine overproduction, immune hyperactivity, and gut issues...and all of that shows up on the skin.

Your nervous system controls your gut.
Your gut controls 70% of your immune system.
Your immune system controls inflammation.

When there’s spinal interference (especially mid-back), the nerves controlling gut and immune function can’t communicate properly. That’s when you see chronic skin issues that won’t resolve no matter what cream you use.

Chiropractic care removes that interference, regulates the nervous system, and allows the body to calm inflammation from the inside out.

Swipe through to learn why eczema is a nervous system problem 👉 and drop 🌿 if this is your child’s struggle.

You don’t have to accept constant flare-ups as normal. 💚

The upper neck controls more than you think. C1 and C2 - two tiny bones protecting your brainstem - affect your emotions, ears, throat, thyroid, and entire physical health. 🧠

Your brainstem controls every automatic function keeping you alive: heart rate, breathing, sleep, digestion, emotional regulation, sensory processing, and more.

When C1 or C2 are under stress (from birth trauma, falls, car accidents, poor posture, chronic stress), they can compress or irritate the brainstem - and everything goes wrong.

What your upper neck controls:
🧠 Emotional health - The vagus nerve (your calm nerve) exits at the upper neck. Misalignment decreases vagal tone = anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation

👂 Ears/nose/throat - Nerves controlling drainage and immunity exit from upper cervical spine. stress and tension to the neck = chronic ear infections, sinus issues, frequent throat infections

🦋 Thyroid function - Nerve signals from brain to thyroid pass through C1/C2. Disrupted signals = thyroid dysfunction (fatigue, weight gain, brain fog)

💪 Overall physical health - Blood flow to brain, cerebrospinal fluid flow, all nerve signals to your body start here. Upper neck imbalance affects EVERYTHING downstream.

Intentional and specific neck adjustments require specialized training that restores brainstem function.
When the upper neck is in a state of balance, everything downstream improves.

Your pregnancy care shouldn’t look the same at 8 weeks as it does at 38 weeks.

Because what your body needs in the first trimester is completely different from what it needs in the third. And your nervous system—the system coordinating every single change happening in your body—needs specific support at every stage.

FIRST TRIMESTER (Weeks 1-13): Adaptation + Regulation

Your body is experiencing a massive hormonal surge. Morning sickness, extreme fatigue, emotional overwhelm—your nervous system is trying to adapt to rapid changes. Early adjustments support hormone regulation, reduce nausea signals through vagus nerve function, and help your body establish a strong foundation for the months ahead.

SECOND TRIMESTER (Weeks 14-27): Alignment + Space

Baby’s growth accelerates. Your center of gravity shifts forward. Round ligament pain shows up. This is when we focus on pelvic balance (Webster Technique) and spinal support as your curves change. We’re creating optimal SPACE for baby to grow and positioning your body for an easier third trimester and labor.

THIRD TRIMESTER (Weeks 28-40): Positioning + Preparation

Maximum physical changes. Sciatica, p***c pain, rib pain. Your body is preparing for labor, and baby needs to get into optimal position. Weekly adjustments help your pelvis open and align, relieve nerve pressure, support baby’s positioning, and prepare your nervous system for labor. Studies show regular adjustments in the third trimester correlate with shorter labor times and fewer interventions.

Your nervous system is coordinating organ shifts, blood volume increases, hormone fluctuations, postural changes, and baby’s development—all at once.
When it’s functioning optimally, pregnancy feels safer, labor progresses more smoothly, and baby thrives.
You’re not just “carrying a baby.” You’re performing biological miracles every single day. And your nervous system deserves trimester-specific support through it all.

What’s the story on the truck?

You may have noticed the cobalt blue ‘72 Chevy C20 sitting out front. This isn’t a mid life crisis.. it was Dr. Ferguson’s every day driver during Covid!

As you probably know, Dr. F has always had a love and appreciation for old things, people and places. His grandparents were a huge part of his upbringing and their time spent together guaranteed his old soul. When this baby became available, he jumped on it!

She’s a project forsure and currently is waiting on new fuel lines before you’ll see her rolling around the streets of Michigan City. Until then, be sure to check her out out front! 😎 🛻 💙🌳

Your frozen shoulder isn’t actually a shoulder problem.

You’ve been told it’s “adhesive capsulitis”—inflammation and adhesions in the shoulder capsule causing progressive stiffness and pain.
The treatment plan? Physical therapy, maybe a cortisone shot, and “just wait 1-2 years for it to resolve.”

But here is the question that no one can answer: Why did your shoulder freeze in the first place?

Your shoulder doesn’t just decide to lock up randomly. It’s a protective response to something deeper—and that something is your nervous system.

And it might just be from your neck...
Your shoulder is controlled by nerves exiting your cervical spine at C4-C7. When there are subluxations (misalignments) in your neck, those nerves experience interference. Your shoulder muscles start guarding, spasming, and compensating. Inflammation sets in and movement becomes restricted. Your shoulder “freezes” to protect the compromised nerve supply. Mamas, we see you.

Up every hour. Walking the halls at 3am. Holding your screaming baby upright for hours because laying them down means pain. Watching them arch their back, spit up constantly, refuse to eat, and cry inconsolably.

You’ve tried everything:
-Reflux medication that barely helps
-Four different formulas
-Elevated bassinet sleeping
-Smaller, more frequent feeds
-Cutting out dairy, soy, and everything from your diet

And nothing is working.

Your baby’s reflux isn’t just a stomach problem, it’s a stressed out nervous system.

The vagus nerve (cranial nerve X) controls the valve between your baby’s esophagus and stomach. It tells that valve when to open, when to close, and how to coordinate digestion with breathing and swallowing.

When there’s a subluxation (misalignment) at C1 or C2—which is incredibly common from birth trauma, even in “easy” births—it creates interference in vagus nerve function.

That interference means:
❌ The stomach valve doesn’t close properly
❌ Digestion is disrupted
❌ Their body stays in fight-or-flight mode
❌ They can’t calm down or relax enough to keep food down

Your baby isn’t broken. Their medication dose doesn’t need adjusting. They don’t need a new formula.
They need their nervous system checked by a pediatric chiropractor.

Gentle chiropractic adjustments (pressure so light you could check a tomato for ripeness) remove the subluxation at C1/C2. (Continued in comments)

We *hope*🤞you aren’t starting your week off this way, but sometimes life just gets us and pain happens!

Let’s break down one of the most common areas- low back and leg pain! That “sciatica” everyone keeps diagnosing you with.. except it’s probably not sciatica.

True sciatica is nerve compression at the lumbar spine—usually from a herniated disc or spinal stenosis.
It’s actually pretty rare.

What you’re experiencing 90% of the time is REFERRAL PAIN that mimics sciatica but comes from completely different sources:

SI Joint Dysfunction - When your sacroiliac joint (where your pelvis meets your spine) is misaligned or inflamed, it refers pain down your leg that feels identical to sciatica. Shooting pain, burning, numbness—all the same symptoms, different source.

Piriformis Syndrome - Your piriformis muscle sits right on top of your sciatic nerve. When it’s tight or spasming (often from pelvic misalignment), it compresses the nerve and creates sciatica-like symptoms. But it’s a MUSCLE problem, not a nerve root problem.

Pelvic Imbalance - Pregnancy, falls, repetitive movements, poor posture—these create pelvic imbalances that put pressure on nerves and refer pain down the leg.

Here’s why this matters:

If you’re treating true sciatica when you actually have SI joint dysfunction, you’re chasing the WRONG THING. Anti-inflammatories, nerve pain medication, even surgery—none of it will fix a mechanical pelvic problem.

Chiropractic adjustments address the ROOT cause. We assess whether it’s your SI joint, your piriformis, your pelvis, or actual nerve compression—and we correct the dysfunction at the source.

We’ve seen countless people told they have “chronic sciatica” experience complete relief after we adjusted their pelvis and SI joint. Because it was never sciatica in the first place.

Stop treating the wrong thing. Get to the root. 🌳💗

You’ve likely seen this beautiful shining face in person by now, but it’s time to introduce AND wish the face of our front desk, Ashland, a very happy birthday!

Here’s a bit on her, in her own words:

‘Hi I’m Ashland! I turn 27 today!! I recently moved back from Tennessee but I was born and mostly raised here in Michigan City. I’ve spent the last 12 years being a sous chef, kitchen manager or corporate trainer chef, until I made the decision to move into the health and wellness world with the Giving Tree team. You can often find me in the office having a concert, cracking jokes with patients, laughing way too loudly or playing with the kiddos around the office. When I’m not at work, I spend my time with family/friends, reading, or finding a good movie and if its nice out, you’ll always find me by a lake enjoying nature and the sound of the waves.’

Ashland is the perfect balance of fun and professionalism. Her massive heart sets the tone and her fabulous personality keeps the spirits high! Be sure to wish her a very happy birthday next time you see her- if you’re lucky she’ll respond in her southern accent 😉💚🌳✨
