Each fall, hundreds of skilled Jamaican orchard workers travel to Vermont - helping us tend, pick, and pack the apples that feed our communities.

This year, as they care for our harvest, their own families are struggling through the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, which brought widespread flooding and destruction across Jamaica.
These men and women are more than workers - they’re part of our orchard family. Their strength and dedication are woven into every apple we grow.

Today, Vermont apple growers are joining together to support them through the Vermont Apple Growers’ Support Fund for Jamaican Seasonal Workers.

100% of proceeds go directly to each Jamaican H-2A/H-2B
team member across participating orchards.

Cambios en los seguros de salud: lo GRANDE, lo MALO y lo FEO
Melanie Clark, asesora de seguros de ODC, desglosa los cambios clave a nivel federal.

Con la aprobación de la Ley de Reforma Integral de la Atención Médica (Big Beautiful Bill Act) y la finalización de las disposiciones establecidas en la Ley del Plan de Rescate Estadounidense de 2021, se acercan cambios importantes en la elegibilidad y la asequibilidad de los seguros de salud. Muchos de los cambios en Medicaid —incluidas las renovaciones más frecuentes, los requisitos de trabajo o voluntariado para ciertos beneficiarios y la reducción del plazo para la cobertura retroactiva— no se implementarán hasta finales de 2026 y 2027. Sin embargo, quienes se inscriban en un plan de salud calificado a través del mercado de seguros médicos verán cambios significativos a partir de este año. Health Insurance Changes – the BIG, the Bad and the Ugly
ODC’s Insurance Assister, Melanie Clark, breaks down key changes at the federal level.

WITH THE PASSAGE of the Big Beautiful Bill Act and the end of provisions put in place as part of the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act, there are some BIG changes in health insurance eligibility and affordability coming down the pipeline. Many of the Medicaid changes—including more frequent renewals, work/volunteer requirements for certain Medicaid enrollees, and a decreased timeframe for retroactive coverage—are not slated to be implemented until the end of 2026 and 2027. Those enrolling in a qualified health plan through the health insurance marketplace, however, will see some significant changes starting THIS calendar year. They can expect significant pricing changes when they select coverage for 2026 on Vermont Health Connect during Open Enrollment (November 1, 2025 - January 15, 2026).
