10 Things You Need
to Know About The Flu
1. Influenza is not a bad cold…… it still hospitalizes and kills people every single year.
2. This flu season is hitting harder than many people expected.
3. Young kids, older adults, pregnant people, and those with asthma/COPD or chronic illness are at real risk, not theoretical risk.
4. Saying “my immune system is strong” does not make you immune to influenza.
5. You can feel fine in the morning and be dangerously sick by night…. flu can escalate fast.
6. The flu vaccine is not perfect, but it does reduce severe illness, hospitalization, and death.
7. No, the flu shot cannot give you the flu….. that myth needs to retire.
8. Antivirals like Tamiflu work best if started early, but only if you seek care promptly.
9. Sending your sick kid to school or activities because “they seem okay” or going to work because you don’t like to miss spreads flu to infants, immunocompromised people, and grandparents.
10. The biggest problem this flu season isn’t lack of medicine….. it’s underestimating the virus.
