These past few years have been exciting, challenging and rewarding, from the Swanson’s home farm all the way to our final home here at Camp Meade in Middlesex. We’re so grateful for the support you’ve shown us as we’ve pioneered Vermont’s first cricket farm; we’ve learned so much and met so many amazing, curious and adventurous people. After a gallant run for an exciting business opportunity and a worthy cause, we’ve come to the conclusion to close our doors here at Flourish Farm.
What we’ve learned over these past two years has been central to our decision. Commercial cricket farming is an expensive and challenging proposition, requiring scale to be sustainable. Though we continue to see a lot of interest, publicity and promise around the edible insect protein industry, it’s now understood in our small market that consumer acceptance is 3-5 years away. These two factors mean that will take far more capital than expected and available to be successful.
We'll be accepting orders through our online store through Monday, April 8. After that time we hope you'll join us in supporting the movement and the farmers who carry on. Leaders like Aspire/EXO and Entomo Farms are blazing the trail with new products which offer nutritional benefits and great taste. We want to see them successfully spread the word and expand awareness on the positive impacts insect protein can have on our health and the health of our planet, until a variety of products are readily available, and popular, on the supermarket shelf.
We still passionately believe in the potential of entomophagy to impact our global quality of life. Please continue to look for ways to support the movement, caring for your bodies, our planet, and the global tribe. While the farm may be closing, we hope you all continue to flourish.
