If you’ve hung out with us for any length of time, you will know about the essential role that honey bees – and all our other pollinator friends – play in the global food supply, but this pollination work does so much more than just put delicious foods on our tables.

In fact, the plants that our bees, birds, bats, butterflies, beetles, etc., pollinate help to sustain ecosystems that keep our world in motion.

Bee-cabulary- Instar (Molting)
Bees go through six different young stages, instar, as they develop. First, they start out as eggs laid by the queen. When the egg hatches after about three days, the tiny larva begins its first stage. Each time the bee outgrows one stage and gets ready for the next, it sheds its skin, molting, and this transition happens roughly every 30 hours.

In the first stage, called the first instar, the larva mainly eats a special food called royal jelly. If you're trying to raise a queen bee, this is the stage and size you're aiming to find for grafting.

By the third and fourth stages, their diet shifts to honey and pollen. When they reach the fifth stage, they are sealed in a wax cap, and during the sixth stage, they are inside this cap as they transform into young adult bees, or pupae.
