How To Raise Healthy Kids
===================

I am not writing this to offend anyone, I write this because it needs to be discussed. Because every time I see an overweight kid, it breaks my heart.

While on vacation with my family (see photo), I saw an alarming number of overweight parents with overweight children that looked almost like mini versions of their parents. It was disturbing and upsetting.

On the flight home, I sat next to a surgeon and an former Olympian and they were also discussing this problem. When they asked me what I thought and what could be done, I discovered there are five simple solutions any parent could use to combat this problem.

1. Don’t Bring Bad Food Into Your House.

From experience I know a kid will eat an apple if they are hungry. But I also know they won’t choose one over a tw***ie if the box is in your house.

2. Exercise Regularly.

Parents who value exercise will have kids that exercise (Just like parents that overeat and don’t exercise will have kids that do the same).

3. Show Don’t Tell.

Don’t tell a kid to get off the couch and get outside. Get outside with them. You might actually have some fun too.

4. Talk About Tough Topics Like Alcohol And Drugs.

Don’t think your child’s school will be the best place to learn about delinquent behaviors. If you wouldn’t take advice from your kid’s friends, make sure that is not the only place your child is getting his or her advice either.

5. Accept Responsibility.

You can point your finger at the fast food businesses, the video games, the TV, and the cereal companies. Stop playing the “blame game” and do the right thing and point your finger at yourself.

In the end, as a parent you are a coach and role model to your kids.
You can’t be a good example if you are a bad example.

Eat Pizza, Lose Fat⁉️
📸 by 👈
How many times have you been told to “cut out carbs to lose fat” or "You can't eat all those carbs, you will get fat!"🤦‍♂️
-
Many people are under the impression that trying to lose weight means you need to cut all carbs & all your fave foods from your diet. It is ABSOLUTELY possible, however, to lose body fat while consuming a load of carbs and not completely removing all joy from your life.
-
A 2012 meta-analysis by Hu et al. found that both low carb (high fat) and low fat (high carb) diets lowered bodyweight with no significant differences between the two groups. A 2016 meta-analysis by Mansoor et al. found that low carb diets were better for weight loss, while a 2017 paper by Hall and Guo found that a low fat diet was better....
-
So essentially, It Doesn't Matter! All diets will work through creating a calorie deficit. The key is adherence - what diet will you actually STICK to. If you prefer low carb, GREAT! If you prefer high carb (like me), GREAT! Dietary adherence is the most important determinant of weight loss success.
-
If you’re trying to follow a low-carb diet but your adherence SUCKS and you feel like crap all the time, then that defeats the whole purpose of trying low-carb, doesn’t it?
-
If you feel better & enjoy a higher carb diet, then allot yourself more carbs; if you prefer a higher fat diet, then eat more fats; if you’re somewhere in the middle, then consume a moderate amount of each.
-
At the end of the day, your overall calorie intake is what matters most for determining whether you lose weight, maintain, or gain weight. Remember - If your overall calories put you in a calorie deficit, you WILL lose fat regardless of your carb intake. Making a whole pizza fit into your diet daily might be a bit tricker! LOL 🤣
-
Tag someone who cut out all carbs and is now STRUGGLING with life!

Resisted deadlifts today. I did a 30 second hold at the top lock of my last rep in my last set. Always finish strong. Always push hard THROUGH the finish. Don’t get lazy because you’re starting to feel tired. Give it EVERYTHING you have until the end is over.

Side Note: My calluses are at the start of a molting phase with my road to 600lbs deadlift. They will rip open at some point this week or next. Grip is the first to fail in deadlifts. Do not neglect grip work.

They do what you do.

Think of the Future.

Childhood obesity is a problem.

Today our children's generation is statistically said to be the first generation in the history of our human existence to have a shorter life expectancy than the generation before them. While we adults are all getting into our 70s, 80s, and 90s. Our youth will be dying in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. This is completely asinine and a hard pill to swallow.

Kids learn more from our actions than by what rules we give them. The whole "do as I say not as I do" attitude we believe guides them through life, doesn't. Of course, this won't apply to all children. There are some kids who grow up in hostile environments and still go on to be legends in the history books.

If our (adult) actions are to be sedentary, as well as eat chemically engineered, processed, food-like substances. And do so mindlessly. Over the years our kids will see those actions and associate them with being "normal" (not all kids but the majority may do so). Actions that are "normal" are less of an action than it is a habit.

Our habitual life is shaped by our choices. Our choices determine our results. Where we are today is a reflection of every choice we've made up to this point. If we are not happy with the results, we must change our choices.

Yet we tend manifest a lot of reasons not to change.

"It's too late for me..."
"I can't afford to..."
"I can't do that..."
"I'm too old..."
"That's too risky..."
"I don't have time..."

Well a big reason to change. Especially if you can't find it in you to change for the betterment of yourself. Change for the kids. Show them a better quality of life. Show them what being responsible is all about. Show them the importance of having health. A life less prone to disease and cancer.

I say show them, don't tell them. Because if you think for a second you can tell your kid to...

"Get off your fat, lazy, ass."
"Lose some weight."
"Stop eating all that crap."
"You're getting fatter than me."
..and not eat your own words...

Don’t expect your kid to actually do it. Kids are led by example.

Go out and be the example. There’s no one better for the job.

People who come to know exactly WHY they keep coming to TFW Madison.

There’s ONLY ONE place in Wisconsin the Sun is always shining! Even on the gloomiest of days you can walk through this door and catch some rays...and lose fat...and build muscle...and feel good.

Getting creative on how to show prospects how to find the training facility. I can do better. I felt like I was walking faster outside than inside but the footage would suggest otherwise. Is it the space difference?
