Hi There! It has been so long since I did an introduction. And big changes have happened! I am now a mom myself to a sweet 9-month old girl. (pictured here!)
I am Amanda. ๐ I am the owner and doctor of occupational therapy with Pediatric Therapy Partners, LLC.
I have always wanted to help children see how loved and amazing they truly are.
Being an occupational therapist allows me to witness the moments where kids transform from being frustrated with trying a challenging skill to --> lighting up with joy when they recognize they CAN DO IT! ๐
I feel honored to help children and families reach their goals!
Personally, I am from Cecil County, MD, right on the Maryland/Delaware state line. I have moved many times, from Towson, MD all the way to Los Angeles, CA. I am happy to have been back in my hometown area for the past 2 years to provide much needed pediatric therapy services.
If you have any questions about occupational therapy, feel free to message me!ย ย
Shout out to and who provide pediatric SLP and PT in Delaware! I love collaborating with them!
If handwriting is causing stress for your child, we want to help!
For older children, we focus on 2 main components of neat handwriting: size of letters and space between words.
For younger children, we focus on the foundations of forming letters and increasing endurance with drawing/writing.

Check out this easy at home fine motor activity: Sorting pompoms
All you need are pompoms of various colors, tongs, and containers for sorting.
You can find small tongs online or at the dollar tree. We like non-sharp, strawberry hullers (like in this picture)!
For an added challenge, try having your child sort into groups by number.
Are you looking for occupational therapy to support your child this summer?
We have daytime, evening, and weekend appointments available to meet the needs of your family.
We also have immediate appointments available too!
We had the pleasure of attending a local event for parents in Cecil County, MD. Thank you Cecil County Public Schools for hosting a great event for the community.
The presence of a calm adult helps a child with emotional regulation. The challenge is that this is HARD!
As parents, we have big emotions too. We get overwhelmed, worried, nervous, sad, angry.
Do not be hard on yourself, as you are doing the best you can.
My top tip for trying to share your calm is to pause for a few minutes or even seconds to take deep breaths and speak positive thoughts/affirmations to yourself.
These will be unique to you, but might include:
-positive self-talk (I am strong, I am able, etc.)
-statements of truth (This will pass, We will get through this together, etc.)
-encouraging scripture

When kids realize their teachers and therapists are humans too.
Children have such a gift for dreaming and believing in vast possibilities.
Today is World Occupational Therapy Day! ๐
Occupational therapy always involves empowerment.
Empowering children and families to have confidence in their skills and knowledge.
To support them in their journey.
To ensure all families we serve know they are cherished and belong.
Love the confidence.
All children are their own, unique person. Revealing more each day of who they are.
Outstanding article about why this is the WRONG question!
From: Powerfully You
"Is it sensory or is it behavior?" assumes that "if it is not 'sensory' it is 'just behavior'."
But, "Behaviors are. . .
-a communication about our sense of safety,
-our regulatory capacity,
-our present moment experience,
-our connection to the people around us,
-and the skills we have to be adaptable."
"Ruling out 'sensory' isn't enough" because kids to do well if they can. "If they aren't behaving well we need to dig deeper, ask better questions, and provide more support."
Instead, we can look at if sensory is contributing to the child's behaviors. We can ask "Is this behavior rooted in sensory challenges?"

Our occupational therapists can help identify if sensory challenges are contributing to your child's struggle with regulation, emotional control, social interaction, and coordination.
And help identify other underlying skills that are contributing to your child's difficulties.

Vestibular (& Proprioceptive) Sensory Strategy: Yard Yoga
Yoga is a fun activity for vestibular and proprioceptive input.
Vestibular input comes from poses where the head is inverted, sideways, or moving.
For even more benefits you can do this outdoors. Outdoor play has been shown to improve attention and emotional regulation, among other things!

Sometimes you just have to shake your head
Sensory Processing Series: The Vestibular System
The vestibular system provides awareness of head and body movement & helps us to maintain balance and postural control.
When it isnโt working correctly, children might experience fear, feel unsafe, or have difficulty with movement-based activities.
When the vestibular system is working โjust right,โ or optimally, we are more regulated, able to attend, and ready to participate in daily activities.
Stay tuned later this week for an at home vestibular system activity.
๐๐๐
Proprioceptive Sensory Strategy: Household Helper
This is a great way for your child to get heavy work / proprioceptive input while at home. This type of sensory input tends to be calming and regulating for most children.
For even more input, add a bit of extra weight to the bottom of the basket.
You can use this as a way to clean up before bed. (What a good time for calming input)
Or use it during playtime as a shopping game.
