Happy Thanksgiving 🤎

I’m wishing you a day that feels grounded, gentle, and meaningful - whether that means time with loved ones, a quiet moment to yourself, or simply giving yourself permission to slow down. For anyone navigating mixed emotions around Thanksgiving, you are not alone. Here’s to honoring what you need, connecting with what matters, and finding comfort in the small things.

Warmly,
Marisa Musumeci, LPC

Let’s be honest: holiday gatherings, like Thanksgiving, can be a lot. People ask questions you don’t want to answer, comment on your plate, or pull you into drama you didn’t sign up for. This post walks you through 3 responses that can help set boundaries that are calm, clear, and totally allowed!

Surviving Thanksgiving by setting boundaries and wearing pants with a stretchy waistband. We all have strengths. 😭

Your comfort matters just as much as everyone else’s this Thanksgiving.

The truth is, loneliness can show up even when you’re surrounded by people. It doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful or doing life wrong. It just means your heart is craving something deeper, more aligned, or simply quieter. Connection looks different for everyone and that’s okay!

With the holidays coming up this can hit hard. If the holidays feel heavy, start small:
🫶 Text someone you trust.
💬 Join a space that feels safe.
🕯️ Take care of yourself in the ways that matter most.

You don’t have to face it alone. Reach out! A connection starts with one small step.

✨ Things I said this week as a therapist… ✨

Because sometimes the simplest reminders are the ones we need most!

🧠 It’s okay to not have all the answers when everything feels chaotic.
💬 Pausing to notice your emotions is progress.
🪞 You don’t have to silence every negative thought — just learn how to meet them differently.
🤍 And remember: no response is still a response.

If something here hits home, take a second to breathe. Save this post for when you need a gentle reminder. Let’s normalize reflection, not perfection. 🫶

📅 November 5th is National Stress Awareness Day! Here is your reminder that stress is a normal part of being human but it doesn’t have to control your life! Here are 3 therapist approved tips to give you a reset on a stressful day. These simple tools can help you pause, reset, and breathe a little easier:

1️⃣ 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding 🌱
Bring yourself back to the present by naming:
5 things you can see
4 things you can touch
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste.
✨ A quick way to calm racing thoughts.

2️⃣ Deep Breathing or Box Breathing 🫁
Breathe in for 4… hold for 4… exhale for 4… hold for 4.
Repeat 3–5 times.
✨ A proven technique to regulate your nervous system.

3️⃣ ‘What’s in My Control’ List ✍️
Journaling what’s actually in your control can help shift your focus from overwhelm to clarity.
✨ A reminder: You don’t have to carry everything!

Save this post for your next tough day and remember - stress is your body asking for care, not judgment!
