It's DAISY Day! 🌼

Congratulations to Julia Haag, Soin Medical Center's DAISY Award winner!

Julia was nominated by a patient who was in the labor and delivery unit for several days after being induced four weeks early. The patient shares that Julia was patient with the couple, always answering their questions and ensuring they were comfortable. She also repeatedly came in to reposition the fetal heartbeat monitor that the patient's baby, or "wiggle worm," would move away from time after time.

"She'd just calmly come back in, stand there, and move the monitor until it was back on and repeat the process after he had squirmed away from it again."

The patient also thanks Julia for consistently bringing her water to help with her excessive thirst and never making her feel like an imposition for needing help using the bedside commode.

"If we were admitted to the hospital again," the nomination says, "and she worked in the department, we would without a doubt specifically ask for her."

Dr. Harvey Hahn, a cardiologist, lives a busy life. Still, he knows how important it is to make time for self-care. Taking care of his mind, body, and spirit helps him be the best doctor, dad, and friend that he can be.

Dr. Hahn’s self-care advice:

💤 Sleep: Dr. Hahn wakes up at 4:30 a.m., and to do this, he gets into bed by 10 p.m. to ensure he is well rested. “When we have bad sleep,” he shares, “it negatively impacts the next TWO days.” No matter what time you wake up, make sure you go to sleep early enough to set yourself up for success.

🏃‍♂️ Running: For Dr. Hahn, running not only keeps him physically fit but also helps him manage stress. “Also,” he says, “doing something hard consistently makes everything relatively easier.”

💛 Daily gratitude and devotions: Running is important to Dr. Hahn, but he’d say that practicing gratitude and doing his morning devotion is more important. Acknowledging what you’re grateful for and focusing on something greater than yourself—be it God, your purpose, or the world around you—helps you focus on the positive rather than the negative. Dr. Hahn spends at least half an hour a day on this, “but if that seems too hard, start off with just a few minutes. You’ll be happily surprised by how grounded this makes you feel.”

Coronary artery disease is the most common form of heart disease and a leading cause of death in the United States. However, survival rates can increase with early detection and advanced imaging. Kettering Health is elevating its ability to diagnose and monitor coronary artery disease by offering a first-of-its-kind, FDA-approved fluorine-18 radiopharmaceutical imaging agent called Flyrcado™ (flurpiridaz F18).

Flyrcado, known scientifically as flurpiridaz F-18, is an injectable radiopharmaceutical imaging agent designed to assess how well the heart functions under stress. The drug offers high quality diagnostic capabilities compared to other imaging drugs due to chemical properties that allow it to produce higher quality images on PET scans.

Kettering Health now joins a select number of health systems in the country offering access to this cutting-edge diagnostic tool aimed at slowing the progression of coronary artery disease and improving patient care through innovations in imaging.

Cynthia Gray works as an APRN in oncology, which she says has taught her the importance of staying grounded while supporting others on their health journeys. “Practicing self-care is essential to staying well and being there for those around me,” she says.

For self-care, Cynthia focuses on two things: eating well and running. “Running not only supports my physical health, but also helps me clear my mind, manage stress, and reset emotionally.”

Cynthia says these habits help her stay present, both at work and at home.
