Our beloved Junior.
Donald Hooper Wiles, Jr, 71, of Middletown, MD, died peacefully at home on July 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
“Junior” lived a full life marked by quiet strength and a willingness to help others. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He was born in Frederick in 1953 to Donald H. and Grace E. (O’Neal) Wiles, and attended Middletown schools, where he played baseball whenever his list of chores would allow. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown and a life member of the Middletown Fire Company, since the age of 16. He played recreational softball in several leagues in the valley, most recently with Zion Lutheran’s softball team.
Junior was a “jack-of-all-trades”, having worked for several dairy farmers, Frederick County Highway, Gladhill Furniture (37 years), and as a tree trimmer, all before starting his own furniture repair business that he ran for 16 years.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, and by his wife, Jennie Lee (Nikirk) Wiles. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Dee and Ric Buchanan, and his pride and joy, grandchildren Abby and Sam Buchanan, as well as stepmother, Patricia Wiles, and seven siblings, George (Martha Jean), Greg, Dave (Debbie), Kenny (Cheryl), Jeff (Krista), Kevin (Marianne), and Donna (Terry), and their families.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 3:00-5:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm at Zion Lutheran Church,107 W. Main Street, Middletown, MD The church will be open 3-9pm as a convenience to friends.. A Funeral Service will follow on Thursday, July 31,2025 from the church at 11:00am. Interment to immediately follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Middletown Volunteer Fire Company. Casual dress is requested.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Middletown Fire Company or Zion Lutheran Church in Junior's honor.
Junior's calm strength was a source of support for many, and his memory will continue to inspire compassion in all who knew him.
