Sharing to celebrate Black History Month and highlight Solomon Carter Fuller’s groundbreaking contributions, which continue to shape behavioral health.
February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the individuals whose contributions shaped medicine, science, and our communities. Solomon Carter Fuller (1872–1953) was a pioneering neurologist, psychiatrist, pathologist, and professor whose work helped advance the understanding of Alzheimer’s disease. He spent much of his career at Westborough Hospital in Westborough, Mass., and served on the faculty at Boston Univ. School of Medicine, where he taught pathology.
In 1912, Fuller published a groundbreaking two-part review that included the first English translation of the original Alzheimer’s case, helping bring critical research to a wider medical community. His legacy continues to influence neuroscience and behavioral health today.
