Hope House Founder, Nancy Caudill, passes.
(Released by Carla Messer, Board President)
Hope House was recently notified that its founder, Nancy Caudill, died in early May.
The founder of Hope House had a dream – to provide shelter and assistance to pregnant teenagers, a place for them to live until the birth of their child. Nancy’s passion for those in need was borne out of her own story. Nancy established a shelter for young women at the Harlan Park Church of God in 1987.
In February of 1989, Hope House became an official 501(C)3 and steps were taken to secure space in Middletown. Nancy leased the old US Grant Hotel and opened the doors of Hope House (formerly known as Middletown House of Hope for the Homeless). The mission expanded under Nancy’s leadership to include the care of men, women, and children. She championed the plight of homeless individuals until she retired in 2002.
Board president, Carla Messer, had a chance to meet Nancy on a few occasions and described her as “passionate and persistent” about caring for those in need. Nancy’s dream of providing shelter and assistance is still alive at Hope House, as it celebrates 36 years of community service and caring for up to 500 individuals every year. Caudill’s faith in God, and her desire to change lives in Middletown, have been a blessing to us all.
We’re grateful for Nancy’s servant heart and pray peace for her family as they grieve her loss.
