As we conclude the High Holiday season with Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah, we take a moment to pause, reflect, and rejoice.

Shemini Atzeret reminds us to linger a little longer in the spirit of togetherness, gratitude, and prayer, while Simchat Torah invites us to celebrate the joy of learning, renewal, and community as we begin the Torah anew.

At JFS, we’re grateful for the opportunity to walk beside our community — offering support, compassion, and connection through every season.

As we welcome the Jewish New Year, our staff came together to gather and deliver apples, honey, and a handwritten card to members of our Holocaust Survivor Program—a small way to honor their resilience and bring sweetness into their homes. Apples are traditionally dipped in honey on Rosh Hashanah to symbolize hope for a sweet coming year 🍎🍯

Thank you to our Senior Case Manager, Stacy Ocko-Lulkin, for arranging this beautiful gesture for the program and delivering the goods personally to the survivors!

Roots Week 3!

This week, we reviewed the Hebrew alphabet, explored the vowel system and how it differs from English, practiced new Hebrew vocabulary while reinforcing words we had already learned, and concluded with a round of Hebrew letter bingo to put our knowledge into practice.
