Caregiver Connections is a new monthly series of no-cost, Friday parent/caregiver meetups held at rotating locations across the state—and we want YOU 🫵 to join us for our first one of 2026 on Friday, March 13 at 6:00 PM in Middletown (St. Anne’s Episcopal Church)! Volunteers will provide childcare in a separate room, and we’ll have pizza and water available! Each Caregiver Connections will revolve around a specific discussion topic relevant to our community, with a knowledgeable parent or professional leading the discussion. This month’s topic: Transition! Samtra Devard, advocate and mom to Lauren, will lead a discussion primarily about the transition to adulthood: employment, independence, community engagement, and more.

We’ll also touch on other important transitions as relevant to the group, such as birth–3 to school district and middle/high school transitions.

We encourage parents of individuals with Down syndrome of any age to join us around the table, bringing your questions or wisdom to share. Please sign up at the link below 🔗

Our Strategic Plan Focus Groups are coming up soon, and we need your help! Share your input with us as we shape the next three years with our 2026-2029 Strategic Plan. Details below 👇

❓ What is a strategic plan?❓

A strategic plan helps set priorities and direction for our organization. It outlines our goals, identifies opportunities for growth, and ensures that our programs, services, and resources align with our mission of supporting families, promoting community involvement, and encouraging a lifetime of opportunities for people with Down syndrome.

📣 How can you get involved? 📣

We are hosting three virtual focus groups during the first week of March to discuss your thoughts, feedback, and ideas. Can’t make it to a focus group? Feel free to share your input via our Strategic Planning Survey.

The DSADE crew took on DC this week! 💼 Taryn Fletcher, Cheryl and Logan Patterson, Matthew Beck, and Eileen Voltz joined DSADE Executive Director Lauren Camp Gates for a day trip to Washington, DC to advocate alongside the Global Down Syndrome Foundation for the annual GLOBAL DC Fly-In & DeOndra Dixon Advocacy Day on the Hill.

The day began with a briefing that included the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director. Next, we headed to meetings with the offices of U.S. Senator Chris C***s, U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, and Congresswoman Sarah McBride to advocate for the DeOndra Dixon INCLUDE Act.

More than 100 families and self-advocates from 21 states and 17 Down syndrome organizations formed and came together to champion lifesaving research and push forward the .

Named in honor of DeOndra Dixon, Jamie Foxx’s late sister who had Down syndrome, this legislation strengthens NIH investment in Down syndrome research to improve health outcomes nationwide.

We’re so proud of the self-advocates and parents who shared their stories, highlighting why continued medical advancement and research matter to our community. 💙💛
