A bit about becoming a Birth Worker

As a Mother to 4 amazing boys, my personal experiences with pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding are quite vast. My oldest was born in-hospital following a highly medically managed labor and birth. Although we have no lasting ill effects from that birth, I would say that my satisfaction with that experience was low. When I became pregnant with my second boy, my Sister shared with me the stories of her home births in California and I was instantly captivated by the thought of so much “freedom” during my upcoming birth. A seed had been planted in my heart that grew into a passion for everything birth, and thus 3 successful home births of my very own.

After enjoying the articulated calm and vast wisdom that is Midwifery care, the course of my life has taken a new direction all of it’s own. For nearly 5 years now I have spent countless hours in some combination of pregnancy & birth preparation, breast feeding and postpartum recovery with my 3 youngest children. During this time self-study of these very topics has become more than a hobby and rather a lifestyle. Birth is truly a transformative event like nothing else we experience as human beings and the desire to share in this season of life with others brought me to opening Northern Sun Birth Services!
