Floaters look like tiny dots, threads, squiggles, webs, or rings that drift through your vision, especially against bright backgrounds (blue sky, white wall). They move when you try to look at them because they’re actually shadows of small clumps in the vitreous gel inside your eye.

Most floaters are harmless and become less noticeable over time. But stay alert to changes, your vision matters.

Prompt treatment is critical to prevent further damage from CMV retinitis. Options include:
💊 Antiviral medications like ganciclovir, foscarnet, or cidofovir
📍 Delivered orally, intravenously, directly into the eye, or via a time-release implant
🔬 In some cases, laser surgery is used to repair retinal damage such as detachment

Immune strengthening is also essential. HIV/AIDS patients are often placed on HAART (highly active antiretroviral therapy), which helps reduce the risk and progression of CMV retinitis.

Note: While treatment can stop further damage, lost vision cannot be restored. Ongoing monitoring by a retinal specialist is highly recommended for those at risk.

CMV retinitis often appears suddenly and may start in one eye before spreading to the other. Common symptoms include:
✔️ Blurry or distorted vision
✔️ Floaters or flashes of light
✔️ Blind spots in central or side vision
✔️ Sudden loss of peripheral vision

Note: There is usually no pain while the damage is happening. If left untreated, CMV retinitis can lead to retinal detachment, optic nerve damage, and irreversible vision loss.
