Changes are coming here! If you haven't checked out my photography page Beth Gedney Photography, please head on over and follow! I am excited for this refocus!

I've been thinking about mooshing together Nourish. Lactation Support and Beth Gedney Photography.
WHY?
Time and sanity. More focus=more productivity in all the best areas.
I need to cut back, BUT I can't give up one OR the other.
I also can't manage to grow both businesses, raise my kids, take care of myself and be a nurse. It sometimes feels like juggling a bunch of fine China 🤪

What would the mash-up mean?
It means I get to focus on my heart of hearts.
Motherhood- maternity, fresh 48s, L&D, and newborns.

It means I don't have to spend time split between two worlds when it comes to content creation.

It means I can be more present.

I will still do your family photos. I will still photograph seniors and the occasional wedding 😬 (just for Beth Ambs though).

I am simply choosing to spend less time (and brain power) on "mini" sessions and advertising and more time on education, content creation, and building relationships.

I am still working on what all of this looks like, but you may see some differences in the future.

💓 Thanks for all of your support.

BABIES DON'T WEAR WATCHES.

Babies don't need schedules, they need access.
Access for bonding.
Access for comfort.
Access when they are fussy.
Access when they just want to exist with you- in total comfort and safety.

Responsive feeding is establishing milk supply in real time. It's part of the biological process and it doesn't mean you don't have enough milk or that you're doing anything wrong!

That strict 2-3 hours schedule, don't throw it out the window completely, But DO, remind yourself that that new little human doesn't keep time. None of us can decide when exactly we will be hungry again, and none of us can know that moment a growth spurt or illness might hit.

Of course it is ok to take time for yourself! If you've fed your baby, loved your baby, and taken care of their needs, it is okay to figure out a way to step away for a little while.

Still wondering if everything is going ok? Want to know how to prepare for an upcoming baby? Let's get an appointment scheduled!

What is included with a prenatal visit?
>Clarifying your feeding goals
>Assessing anatomy
>Measuring for pump parts and discussing pump options

Suck blisters.

Let’s talk about them!

Are they “normal”? “Common”?

Suck blisters happen much like a blister on your feet in a damp sock. Friction causes them.

So what’s the big deal?

Blisters that are persistent or blisters that go all the way around the lip can be a sign that something about the latch is off. The baby is using the grip of the lips to hang on to the ni**le, rather than using the muscles of the mouth. If blisters are present, they might not just be “normal” or “common”. If your baby has a suck blister along with poor weight gain, low milk supply, or pain with feeding, it’s time to get an evaluation!

Let’s talk fl**ge sizes!

You get a cool new pump, you’ve seen the fun tiktok videos about using this sizing thing. You’re excited and you got one.

Now what?

I have a love-hate relationship with technology. Info at the tip of our fingers, right?
Maybe too much? It’s hard to know what’s the good stuff.

Kits typically come with a 21mm or 24mm. The truth is, the majority of people are using the wrong size!

Why does size matter?
•better fit can mean better supply
•better fit can mean better comfort
•better fit means, reaching your goals

Let’s get you properly fitted. Let’s save those ni**les from trauma! Let’s have the best supply our bodies are capable of making!

From the time the first pregnancy test is positive, planning is happening!!
Names are discussed, nursery decor is chosen, outfits are bought.
Appointments are scheduled, diets change, prenatal vitamins are bought.

How much do we put into getting ready to feed our babies?

Planning ahead can make all the difference when it comes to breastfeeding! (insert lots of research here that shows being prepared increases breastfeeding rates 👏👏)

💛Prenatal visit around 20 weeks💛
-especialy with history of hormonal disorders or thyroid dysfunction
-history of IVF
-history of low milk supply
-history of breastfeeding challenges with previous pregnancies!

💛Prenatal visit around 32-36 weeks💛
*focused on delivery preparation*
-feeding positions
-pumping and bottles
-normal feeding patterns
-collecting colostrum
*may need to visit before 32-36 weeks IF expecting a preterm infant for any reason*

These visits pair wonderfully with a in-home or in-hospital consult right after delivery!
On-going support can happen as needed, through weaning, returning to work, and everything in between!

Tell me you’re a lactation consultant’s kid without telling me you’re a lactation consultant’s kid.

My poor kids have used these for bruises, a sprained finger, and a broken elbow over the last few months ♥️ 🤪

~I’ve been in a handful of homes over the last few weeks ~

•I kneeled next to a mother and helped her to hand express for 20 minutes. The pump just didn’t work for her after days of trying.
She was separated from her baby and didn’t believe she was making anything inspite of “feeling full”. We got almost a whole ounce once her body let go! 🥰
•I put together a feeding plan for a mom hoping to supplement less ♥️
•I encouraged another to keep going inspite of family and friends telling her she doesn’t need to even try 🥹

To be honest. I’ve been beat down in trying to kick start this journey. It is why you haven’t heard from me here in such a long time.

BUT I don’t want to quit. The need is so great.
I’m excited to say I completed the initial steps to start taking some insurance!

May you never feel alone in this journey. May you have access to strong and practical help here in Midland, Michigan ♥️
