WARNING - SCAM ALERT - NO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY will request a payment for a warrant online, over the phone or at any other location than a criminal justice facility.
Many residents of Midlothian and Ellis County have been receiving calls claiming the Midlothian Police Department, Ellis County Sheriff’s Office or other agency has a warrant for their arrest. The caller states the victims must pay in order to avoid going to jail. They demand the victim pay using some form of store-bought credit cards, QR Codes, or Bar Codes. They may also ask to transfer crypto or other electronic payments.
What makes these calls sound more official, is the suspects are using the names of our current or former employees and spoofing the phone number to make it look like the call is actually coming from the Police Department or the Sheriff’s Office.
THIS IS A SCAM!!!!
Although officers may call to inform you of a pending warrant, they will NEVER demand any form of payment over the phone. This includes Federal, State and local law enforcement. The IRS, FBI, DOJ, etc. will not request money from you.
If someone calls stating they are with the Midlothian Police Department and you are unsure, you can call 972-775-3333 or email Officer Deranjic at senad.deranjic@midlothian.tx.us
