What are plyometrics? Rapid explosive movements like jumping, bounding, and even running. Simple box jumps would not be a true plyometric, however a depth jump with a rebound is! You must train shock absorption+propulsion.
Whats the purpose? To build elastic resistance in the tendons to act more like a spring. The harder the spring, the bigger the bounce.
What sports is it good for? Any sport involving jumping, or running (almost all!). It helps build efficiency of movement and helps fend off overuse injuries like patellar tendinitis (jumpers knee), Achilles tendinitis, and others.
Are there risks? Yes! Too much plyometric work too soon can cause things like patellar tendinitis and Achilles tendinitis. Itβs always best to work with a therapist or trainer who can program these into your routine.
