Big week 🙌

Just became an APTA Level 1 Certified Clinical Instructor, and I’m excited to bring a more structured, high-level experience to my DPT students.

Grateful to Athletico for supporting me and letting me step away from the clinic to grow in a new way. Turns out… I love teaching!

Now taking specialty DPT students in vestibular/concussion and cheer/gymnastics through our Student-to-Specialist S2S program. If you’re a DPT student that is completing their last clinical rotation in 2028, Athletico’s S2S program is a great opportunity. Applications for 2027 are closed but now is the time to start planning your 2028 speciality clinical internship at Athletico.

Great morning of learning and collaboration with Athletico’s concussion and vestibular crew here in Richmond 🧠

Loved being a presenter at this quarter’s vestibular/concussion journal club and getting into real, meaningful discussion around concussion management alongside PTs and athletic trainers. These kinds of conversations and shared perspectives are what push our care forward.

This is also exactly why I’m so passionate about what I do. My approach to concussion and vestibular rehab is built on years of clinical practice, advanced certifications, and dedication to life long learning.

Always grateful to be surrounded by clinicians who want to keep getting better.

A lot of new faces and followers here lately, so I wanted to properly introduce myself and what I actually do in clinic.

I’m Dr. Ashley Kelley, PT, DPT. Clinic Director at Pivot/Atletico Physical Therapy at Westchester Commons with over 7 years of experience in outpatient and sports physical therapy.

I’m a former competitive and elite collegiate cheerleader, which is what led me into specializing in movement, performance, and athlete rehabilitation.

In the clinic, you can find me working with an array of orthopedic and neurological conditions including vestibular disorders and concussions, individuals recovering from complex spine surgeries, non-surgical spine and musculoskeletal care, and sports performance rehab for cheerleaders and gymnasts.

I also serve as a Certified Clinical Instructor through the APTA. This year I’ll be working with a first-year ODU student and a third-year University of Delaware doctoral student in a gymnastics and cheer specialty clinical experience.

My work has been featured in the APTA magazine Physical Therapist Working with Gymnasts, including a former patient who went on to compete at the Division I level.

My approach is simple. Take time, understand the full picture, and build care that actually fits the person in front of me.

Grateful for the athletes, students, and families I get to work with every day.

A common misconception in youth sports is that resistance training is dangerous for children.⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
The current consensus from organizations like the NSCA and American Academy of Pediatrics shows the opposite: appropriately designed and supervised strength training is safe for youth and can actually reduce sport-related injury risk while improving performance.⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
In sports like gymnastics and cheer, athletes already experience very high external forces during landings and skills. Structured strength training simply helps the body tolerate what it is already being asked to do in sport.⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
This is not about lifting heavy for the sake of lifting heavy. It’s about preparing tissues for load, improving control, and building long-term durability.

👀 You can’t diagnose what you can’t see.
Frenzel lenses help reduce visual fixation so true eye movements like nystagmus become visible. This improves vestibular and oculomotor testing and supports a more accurate vestibular evaluation.

When visual fixation is not reduced, some vestibular dysfunctions can appear normal even when they are not. That is why Frenzel lenses are a standard tool in a thorough vestibular evaluation.

You deserve a vestibular evaluation where we can see what is really going on.

✨📖 2025 Recap 📖✨

2025 has been an incredible year of growth, leadership, and impact.

I was promoted to clinic director in April and honored to receive the RAFT Award for leading with core values, recognized among all clinic directors in the South Richmond region.

Over the summer, I created sponsorships with and , screening around 30 athletes per gym during pre-season, and following up with skilled rehab in clinic to help athletes safely return to their sport.

I will be leading the Virginia mentorship program for Concussion and Vestibular Rehab at Athletico starting in January 2026, providing guidance and support to fellow therapists while helping patients reach their goals.

I continued mentoring physical therapy students and am excited to welcome my first cheer and gymnastics specialty student from the University of Delaware in September 2026.

This year, I helped half my patients flip without pain and the other half return to normal activities and recreation without dizziness. It is incredibly rewarding to see them achieve what they thought was not possible.

I am proud of the impact made in 2025 and look forward to continuing sponsorships, expanding outreach, and growing community engagement in 2026.

🎄 Our First Annual Pivot/Athletico Westchester Commons PT Christmas Party 🎄

Today was all about celebrating our incredible team—
good food, thoughtful gifts, fun games, and conversations not about clinical notes or insurance 😉

I’m beyond proud of how our staff continues to represent
RAFT at Pivot/Athletico every single day:

✨ Respect
✨ Accountability
✨ Fun
✨ Teamwork

This team shows up daily to help people heal,
especially our ortho, gymnasts, cheerleaders, concussion, and vestibular patients,
and moments like today remind me how special that work truly is.

Grateful for the chance to bring a little joy into what we do together.

From all of us at Pivot/Athletico Physical Therapy- Westchester Commons,
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours 🎁✨

Here’s to a strong, purpose-filled 2026—
go make it happen.
