⚠️ Shingles Awareness Week ⚠️

Shingles is a skin condition caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus—the same virus that causes chickenpox. It often begins with skin symptoms before a rash appears, including tingling, burning, or pain in a specific area.

When shingles develops, it typically causes a painful, blistering rash that appears on one side of the body or face, following a nerve pathway. In some cases, skin pain can persist long after the rash has healed.

Adults 50 and older are at increased risk. While shingles cannot always be prevented, the shingles vaccine (Shingrix) significantly reduces the risk of developing shingles and its skin-related complications.
