❄️⚡ Why Winter Is the Best Time for Light-Based Treatments ⚡❄️

Winter is an ideal time to begin light-based treatments, including IPL and laser hair removal, for several important reasons:

• Less sun exposure makes it easier to follow required sun precautions before and after treatment
• Untanned skin allows light-based devices to target treatment areas more precisely and consistently
• Cooler weather supports a more comfortable post-treatment experience
• More time indoors naturally helps protect treated skin while results develop
• Better timing for summer since light-based treatments are performed in a series and results build gradually over time

☀️⚡ Why sun exposure matters:
• Tanned skin contains more melanin, which can interfere with how light-based treatments work
• After treatment, skin is more sensitive to UV exposure, making sun protection an important part of achieving the best results

Starting in winter allows time to complete treatments and see progress well before warmer months arrive.

✨ Curious About Blu-U Therapy? Here's What You Should Know ✨

💙 Blu-U photodynamic therapy is a non-invasive, in-office treatment used to target actinic keratoses (precancerous skin lesions), acne vulgaris, and sun-related skin damage.

This advanced therapy combines a light-sensitizing agent with targeted blue light to selectively destroy damaged or abnormal skin cells—without surgery or downtime. For many acne patients, Blu-U alone can help reduce breakouts and inflammation over time.

🔵 Safe, effective, and backed by clinical expertise
🔵 No needles, no medications, minimal disruption
🔵 Great for acne, photodamage, and early skin cancer prevention

📞 Call us at (804) 378-3048 to schedule a consultation and find out if Blu-U is right for you.

🌺✈️ Dr. Adams is back from Winter Clinical Hawaii 2026, where she spent the week learning the latest in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. Always learning, always bringing the best back to Midlothian Dermatology. 📚

This year was extra special because she traveled with her sister (a dermatology nurse practitioner) and made it a girls’ trip when her daughter, Ella, joined for the long MLK weekend. 💕👩‍⚕️👩‍👧

They soaked up the local Maui fun 🌴🌊 and squeezed in one quick day in Honolulu. Plans to hike Diamond Head 🥾🌋 were postponed to get back to Richmond ahead of the ice storm ❄️ , but it's officially on the list for next year.

And yes, there was time for a fruity Mai Tai (or two). 🍹😉

📞 Call (804) 378-3048 to schedule your appointment. Dr. Adams is refreshed and ready to help you achieve your healthiest skin yet! ✨

Winter Redness Isn’t Just Dry Skin ❄️
Could it be rosacea?

If your skin feels red, flushed, or extra sensitive this time of year, it might not be “just dryness”—it could be rosacea, a common skin condition that flares up in cold weather and is often misdiagnosed.

Common signs of rosacea include:
🔴 Persistent facial redness
🔴 Burning or stinging sensation
🔴 Bumps or breakouts that resemble acne
🔴 Flushing triggered by heat, wind, or spicy food
🔴 Visible blood vessels across the cheeks or nose

According to the American Academy of Dermatology:

“Rosacea can be mistaken for acne, an allergic reaction or other skin problems. The redness can gradually become more persistent, and visible blood vessels may appear.”
(AAD.org)

And as the National Rosacea Society explains:

“In many cases, people mistake rosacea for sunburn or skin sensitivity, and delay seeking treatment—leading to worsening symptoms.”
(rosacea.org)

📞 Make an appointment to see if your facial redness could be rosacea.
Regardless of the cause, Dr. Erin Adams can provide a diagnosis and get you on track to healthier, clearer skin.

💉✨ Rejuvenate Your Hands at Midlothian Dermatology 🙌✨💉

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at Dr. Erin Adams treating Dr. Jo Bohannon-Grant, our former owner and dermatologist, with Radiesse® for hand rejuvenation!

🙌 Why does Dr. Bohannon-Grant choose Radiesse?
• Minimal swelling for a comfortable recovery
• More natural-looking results than hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane® and Juvederm®
• Long-lasting effects—up to 12–18 months, depending on metabolism
• Stimulates collagen for firmer, smoother skin

✨ Want to take your results even further?
A few weeks after Radiesse, patients can opt for IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to fade age spots and sun damage. IPL uses targeted light pulses to break up pigmentation for brighter, more even-toned skin.

🌬️ Winter skin got you itchy? You’re not alone.
Cold air, indoor heat, and low humidity can all trigger eczema flare-ups this time of year. Try these 7 dermatologist-approved tips to soothe and protect your skin:

1️⃣ Use warm (not hot) water when bathing
2️⃣ Choose fragrance-free soaps and detergents
3️⃣ Apply thick, hydrating creams—not lotions
4️⃣ Stick to breathable cotton clothing and bedding
5️⃣ Use a humidifier to add moisture to dry indoor air
6️⃣ Drink plenty of water throughout the day
7️⃣ Ask your provider about vitamin D supplementation

❄️Thinking about laser hair removal? Winter is the perfect time to start!

Laser hair removal works best when you complete a series of treatments (usually 6–8 sessions, spaced about 8 weeks apart). By beginning in October, you can finish your series just in time for spring and summer — when you’ll want smooth, hair-free skin the most.

We offer single treatments or savings when you purchase a series, so you can choose the option that works best for you.

Let’s talk about it: menopause doesn’t just affect your hormones—it impacts your skin, energy, sleep, and yes, your hair. 💛
Thinning and shedding are common during perimenopause and menopause due to hormonal shifts that affect follicle strength and scalp health. 💛

She offers personalized menopause hormone therapy, vulvar skin treatment, and in-office PEMF therapy to support women through every stage of hormonal change.

For women noticing hormone-related hair loss, we often recommend whole-body support—starting from the inside out.

Xtressé™ Hair Growth Gummies are a gentle, strawberry-flavored 🍓 alternative to large pills. They’re formulated to nourish the scalp and support follicle health without interfering with lab work—making them a smart add-on to your hormone care plan. 💛
