Eric was tired of big physical therapy clinics where he felt like just another number and saw little progress with his partial knee replacement. He wanted 1:1 care from a PT who truly knew him and cared about his recovery. Luckily, he saw our Instagram post featuring Dr. Tricia and gave us a call! 👏

Thank you, Eric, for sharing this wonderful testimonial - not only about your experience with Dr. Tricia, but also with our chiropractors, massage therapist, and personal trainers. That’s the benefit of being a patient at Active: a whole team dedicated to helping you get better! 💪

20+ years. Thousands of miles.

Heart rate, power, pace — they all matter. But they’re just guardrails.

Training with Caillin as we both build toward Ironman Lake Placid. He’s newer to the sport, super talented, and right in that phase where everything starts to click.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned — and try to pass on — is this:

Don’t lose connection with how it feels.

In my last race, I used heart rate to stay honest, but I raced by feel. The numbers confirmed what I was sensing, not the other way around.

We’re so dialed into data now that we’re starting to lose that skill.
It’s not the plane… it’s the pilot. (Thanks, Tom Cruise.)

Now that I’m a little older, I’m finally getting smarter… and hoping to pass some of that along.

It’s the same approach we use at Active. Build awareness first, then use the data to guide it. Done right, it usually leads to better performance and fewer injuries.

Trust the feel. Let the data keep you honest.

Do you race more by feel or by numbers?

If you’ve ever seen Dr. Tricia in action, you know she loves dry needling… and your tight, cranky muscles are about to love it too. 👏

Dry needling is a technique that targets trigger points in the muscle to help release tension, improve blood flow, and decrease pain so you can move better and recover faster. Several of our providers offer dry needling - ask if it's right for you during your next visit!

Ready to give it a try? Call 804.378.6035 or request your appointment at bit.ly/activeappointment.

We talk a lot about what to stop doing when you’re injured… but what about how to keep moving and heal?
In this video, Dr. Tricia breaks down the F**T principle, a simple way to adjust your workouts so they support your recovery instead of setting you back.

Think type, frequency, duration, and intensity. You don’t have to go from full activity to nothing. There’s a smarter middle ground.

Big takeaway: stay consistent, but dial back intensity and duration so your body can recover while you keep moving.

Dealing with an injury but not sure how to modify your workouts? Save this one.

Great weekend of racing.
Season opener at Rumpus Triathlon Olympic Distance and a lot of familiar faces out there.

3rd overall for me… but way more fun seeing what everyone else was up to.

hit his 50th triathlon (which definitely deserves a decade party), had an incredible race finishing 2nd overall female in a battle that came down to seconds, and went out and crushed Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K.

And on the mic at Kinetic Multisports events singing the national anthem… doesn’t get much better than that.

We also had a lot of Active patients out there across the weekend putting in big efforts.

Different races, different goals… same energy.

Grateful for this crew.

Season opener.
First tri of the year tomorrow. Rumpus Triathlon Olympic Distance

It’s a big race weekend with Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K as well. Always great to see so many people out there getting after it.

It’s always interesting lining up for the first one. A little excitement, a little unknown, and a good reminder that race day is never a given.

No matter how many years you’ve been doing this, you still don’t really know what the day is going to bring.

And honestly… that’s the fun part.

Simple plan:
Start controlled and finish strong.
Smile at the challenge.
Thank the volunteers.
Grateful to be healthy and back at it.

Who’s racing this weekend?

Happy ! Meet Cole 💪

Cole has been an avid athlete his whole life - football, running, cycling, you name it. But his hyper-mobility had led to bilateral knee pain and frequent dislocations that were keeping him from doing the things he loves most.

After several months of PT and addressing the underlying instability driving his symptoms, Cole is back to running and cycling pain-free, playing football without issue, and just returned from an epic hiking trip to Patagonia where he hiked 57 miles over four days with ZERO knee pain 🙌🏔️

So proud of your progress, Cole! Keep crushing it!
