Dissolvable and non-dissolvable stitches both have their place in facial surgery. Resorbable sutures are helpful for out-of-town patients, while removable sutures may be preferred for certain skin types. Although dissolvable stitches can cause more early inflammation, long-term scar results are essentially the same. The choice depends on the patient and the procedure.
